[NeoGaf/WGTC] Accept Steam Agreement Or Disable Your Account - Page 2

Welcome to software and digital distribution licensing.

I have over a terabyte of Steam games and if they tried this with me it would make getting a lawyer involved worth it.

You can't just revoke a license that someone paid for and not refund some portion of it, but no one has seriously fought something like this in court yet as far as games go. I would bet the consumer would be compensated in some fashion. I clicked agree come take my children, ya right.

Or I would burn this mother down.

Defend what? Any company would do this so what is there to defend? I mean are you actually surprised?

so you are OK if steam TOS is updated with something you don't agree with yet you have no other choice but to accept if you want to keeping playing the games YOU paid for?
It's the same with virtually any type of software. You have to agree to the company's terms to keep using their product. There are laws that protect us from them changing their agreement to something absurd. Steam is still plenty safe.

What exactly wouldn't I agree with? They can't change it to something illegal. It's not like they can do something that I would so strongly disagree with that i'd want to terminate my account.

By buying games on a virtual third party, you should be fully aware that you have to agree to their terms to keep accessing your games. It's not news, it's common sense. Everything virtual is the same way. How is it any different than Amazon, Origin, etc? You still have agreements, and you still need to agree to their most recent version of it in order to download/play your games.

Yes i am, because if they add something i disagree with i would keep on playing.

First off almost nobody reads that crap (including me) so it will never bother me anyway. All the games i get on steam are deeply discounted and most of them i dont play anymore anyway.

So again yeah i would still agree and keep on playing.

if you agreed to the old ULA, bought games because the old ULA is fine with you, then they released a new ULA, now you have to agree with it or they will take away the games you purchased prior to this new ULA? is this really fine?

what i'm tryin to say is that, can they really make a first ULA, write every good things in there to lure customers, then after you bought some games they will gonna make you agree to their new ULA with every bad things written in there, you don't have a choice but to agree with it because they will take away the you already paid for if you won't, no refund will be given.

i don't think it's right, they should refund my money if i they are going to close my account just because i don't like their new ULA.

And thus here is my problem with Steam.

While I do enjoy the service they provide and the godly sales. Being wrapped in an extremely sketchy TOU that has caused some of the concerning issues that highlight the drawbacks of digital distribution make me think twice about every game I purchase on Steam.

Tell that to the people who RAGE about EA's origin

I would naturally assume this would apply for all online services. Am I applying too much common sense here? Origin included as well as GoG etc, I'm sure if you asked for your account to be closed all titles associated with said account would cease to be accessed.
