New at overclocking but want to learn - Page 2

Anyways, what are the best stress/torture tests to use? I've been using S&M with the CPU at 100% etc etc. However, I'd pass the tests and then when it came down to playing BF2 I'd still lock up. Any other pointers or links to stress tests I can use that are more in depth or that tend to weed out all the possible problems the processor could get?

I've also been wondering about is that Intel Temperature reading more accurate than the AI Booster than the Asus P5W-DH comes with? Cause as you had said my temps are about 15 or so higher with that new program that I found on the net and downloaded.

Last thing, lol, I followed OCZ Thermal Paste directions on how to apply it to Intel Processors, it says to just put a blob like a "grain of rice" as they say for my heatsink that I swapped in there, the Zalman. However, 2 weeks later I found that the grain of rice had only spread out to about 3/4 of the processor. The reason they had said to do it that way was to prevent any air bubbles or watever that can occur if u manually spread out the thermal grease. I was wondering if I should just clean it off again with alchohol, reapply the grain of sand or just apply more thermal paste on to the heatsink and spread it out? Just wondering on who has had the most successful results in their thermal grease. Thank you always for any feedback!

Kevin

For multi core processors, a program called Orthos does a very nice job. It automatically runs multiple sessions of Prime 95 (more or less) to fully stress all of the cores.

TAT was written buy folks who know a heck of a lot more about the inner workings of Intel CPUs than anyone else, so it's the most accurate program available. Intel simply does not provide enough info to third party developers to get very accurate temperature readings.

I personally just drop a tiny dab of thermal paste on the heatspreader, apply the heatsink, and rotate a few degrees in either direction. It will indeed spread out to roughly one inch diameter if things go well. Definitely clean off all remnants of the old paste before proceeding. I'm not sure about the OCZ thermal paste, but some others require certain periods of burn in (thermal cycles not necessarily full blast).
