I have no bias towards either AMD or Nvidia as obviously I have went with AMD before and am considering Nvidia, it more or less has come down to price difference and power consumption for me. Is there any brand 4gb 670 or 680 I can get for around the $500 a piece price point of the 7970 that will in most cases come close to meeting or exceed its performance? Also as I will need a motherboard for both cf and sli, will there be a gain in either 2 7970s or 2 670/680 over the 690?

690 VRAM is 4GB I was wrong about the 2GB version, there is none. If you are only using 1 x Crossover monitor, stick with a single GTX 670/680. It will be plenty
