The market for this new service would be only the people with always on Internet connections. I think the number of potential customers in that market is rather large. If logging in to Steam was an issue to some one they wouldn't use it. Me personally? Any time my PC is turned on it is logged into Steam so this would be great for me.
The only issue I can see happening is that they will pretty need to have multiple users on one account. If I am playing a game on Steam and my wife wants to use some software on a laptop there could be some issues. Though we do this right now with games using offline mode on the laptop most of the time. So perhaps streamlining the offline mode would be needed before breaking ground on this.
Or they could just say tough and force you to only use one piece of software at a time on an account. I am sure there would still be a lot of people that would be OK with that as it wouldn't affect their usage.
