No reason to experiment? Current OS's are just fine?

So many things wrong with these two statements.....

First, without experimentation we would not have innovation, our society and technology in every field would become stagnant. There is absolutely every reason to experiment with everything, every day!

I have several complaints about current OS's, and can think of several ways to improve them, from simply speeding up boot times even beyond what a SSD provides to smaller installations. A massive complaint I have is the size of Windows 7 installation, and the number of tweaks that need to be made after installation to improve its speed and usability.

I absolutely know for a fact that the modern operating system could be several magnitude better than what we have.

Wow that is huge. Steam selling Sony Vegas, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc is a grand idea. I can't believe they didn't implement it earlier. I just hope the approval process is good, so we are not flooded with garbage. I don't want Steam to become like the Android market.

Does it say anywhere that the DRM will be the same for software as it is now for the games?

It probably won't sell any professional software.

So they would need to ban from games, but leave the other software alone. This could be easily done by having semi-separate accounts...if everything is OK you get both when logged on to one. If some thing is wrong, then you only get the library for the non-gaming software. Think netflix by mail service and streaming service...if you only have one that is all you see when logged in. If you have both then you see both.
Really they need to rethink the whole banning idea anyway. If you cheat in one game you should be banned from that one game...not all games. For that matter if you got caught using production software to do not so nice things you could get banned from that software too. That would completely remove probably the largest opposition to this idea...but that is really a different discussion.

there is another thread about steam closing your account and taking away all the contents you already purchased IF YOU DON't AGREE TO STEAMS NEW TOS (or for any reason). so when that happens, say goodbye to your ms office, photoshop, etc.

Even if they did have it, i doubt it would ever go down much in price.

Sensational thread is sensational...

The update to the TOS isn't anything drastic and is more than in line with industry standards. What people fail to understand is, at least in the USA, you aren't buying the software but the rights to use the software.

I had a whole reply in the thread you are referencing, should be be interested.

lmao, what do you expect? Not to agree to the ToS and still use the service? If you don't agree to the ToS, Steam will just exit, and ask you again when you start it. Unless you mail Valve, specifically stating you don't agree they will offer to delete your account.
