Do you think it would be worth it to dish out the extra $100 for a 8800GTX?

Yes it is worth it. Back in the day when I got my 9700PRO people hassled me about it not being worth it but i bought it anyway lol. I mean look at it now. I can still play Far Cry on medium settings pretty sweetly. I'm sure if i bought the GeForce 4 Ti4800 I wouldn't have been able to play that much.

If you can spare the $100 then I would do it...

But with all the price gouging that will be going on I doubt it will only cost $100 more

thanks to anyone who helps
Check out my system specs. Best setup IMO. Just had sccr build it for me, should be getting it tomorrow. It is slightly over budget though, by about $100.

I disagree that that is the best build for the money. The Raptors take up way too big a chunk out of the budget. Also, the motherboard you have is nice, but expensive also. The P5B Deluxe will overclock very well, and the only advantage of the P5W64 is the fact it runs Crossfire.

Also, I think a 20" monitor is nearly a must with such a high end video card (whether it be X1900 series, X1950, 8800, or R600...).

Finally, personally I don't think it's worth to spend about $200 extra for the 8800GTX. The 8800GTS will already outperform the fastest card we have now by about a factor 1.5 (as opposed to a factor of nearly 2 for the 8800GTX). This is a more ore less educated guess based on specs. Only if you plan to keep the card for years, then it might be worth investing in it. However, I would not do so at the cost of other components.

The rig I listed earlier is well balanced, and has good components for each part. The only thing I personally would change is add a second hdd for RAID0, but you stated you don't need it.
