Apples patent shopping list!

Apple has been granted a patent on organising shopping lists, but not on shopping itself despite appearances. At a glance the design does look like it covers lists of desired products, gathered by either scanning barcodes with a phone camera, waving a mobe over wireless NFC tags or typing in product descriptions. However, even Apple wouldn't try to pull a stunt like that and the patent actually covers what's done with the list once it has been assembled.
Sounds mildly useful for those with long shopping lists.

However, the ironic part is that they're probably going to need to set up millions of dollars worth of datacenters to do this, when if they had offered a partnership with Google on this (google does the hardware, apple provides android with the software), Google already has the capacity to do this. They'll probably only sell a couple dozen iphones for this feature, yet they'll devote millions to do it. doh.gif

Filed in 2008? Hmmm...guess they really were banking on the cloud even back then. But aren't there already none list versions of this idea? You know...scan a bar code and it shows where it's cheaper near you?

Wow, what an amazingly miss leading title!

Queue the Android fans running in and screaming profanity without actually reading the article.

In all fairness these apps have been around since the beginning of iOS and Android in the sense that the camera could be used to scan bar codes which would then tell you where to find the product cheaper. They have never really worked too well though and I'm not sure if any of them actually create a shopping list and categorise by retailer.

^This...I'm starting to wonder if we can label before we post news that the title is sensationalist and whether that will keep the responses more civil.

^Yes that. Really just another stupid Apple patent. This isn't really news anymore. Are they going to report on every single dumb patent Apple will or has been granted. That's a long list it seams.

I'm not going to rant. I just want to know when and where I'm going to need to send my royalty payments to our Apple overlords for breathing. I'm sure they were granted a patent for that in 2006.
