You've got it completely wrong.

1. That feature is also available on Android. In fact it was available back when I initially got my G1 upon release. So there goes your theory of Apple douchebags since there was obviously a demand for it on Android.

2. This is not what they're patenting. They're patenting a piece of software that categorises the contents you scan into a shopping list, which can then be split up into 'retailer' lists dependant upon whether it is cheaper or exclusive to that retailer. It can then give you a route to the retailers. This would be extremely useful for such items that intrigue you at someone else's home and you're wondering where you could procure such an item.

You should probably attempt to read the article, and then try to understand the article. This is about what the software does with the information after scanning it.

lol this for once sounds cool and apple might not stole it from someone else but i can see this maybe making big chains mad if it sends you right to what you need and no having to spend extra time trying to find the right store and end up spending money at others while your in looking.

Amazon's app and the Redlaser app already does this. I use it all the time in stores. Redlaser shows local and online prices for the same product, and Amazon shows me listings of the product on their site and if it's Prime or not. I used Amazon's app to to buy my last round of college textbooks (free shipping + no tax on Amazon). I especially like it for cloths and shoes because I can try them on locally, and then get them cheaper, and often with a better return policy, online. The UPS/Fedex guy hates me because I pretty much buy everything except food online (actually, some food items I buy online). There isn't much reason to buy anything locally anymore as long as I can wait 2-3 days for it to ship.

Wait, i was with them up until the last part, where the list is sent to the server and compiled to tell you where is cheapest for everything.

So the idea is that you go shopping and scan everything you want, only to go home and buy them from etailers later. Probably paying shipping from each one.

Seems like a waste really, but hey. It might have a practical use.

Edit: and the source is hugely misleading, but it's the source's fault. Not OP's.
