Alright guys, so its been a while so im glad to be back into the PC world. My computer is feeling a little outdated to me and i'm just trying to get an idea to what to build sometime soon, probably next monday to order. I have a Asus 6950 2GB and it can be unlocked to the 6970, but I'm not sure if Im in need for a GFX card. I really want to upgrade to the 2011 series and get a 3930K. Lately I've been doing alot of multitasking and video editing for a buddy of mine, along with Photoshop on my spare time. I'm not sure what to do but I dont think this 2500K can put up with it. With all of this being said, can build me a decent build, just mobo, cpu psu, ssd. I dont wanna go crazy but my range is anywhere. I was hoping to stay below $1400. Let me konw and sorry for the extended post.

Your rig is pretty darn up to date. Upgrading now would be a complete waste of money. What part of video editing is laggy for you? Is rendering taking a long time? Overclock the CPU. For a lot of video editing software like After Effects and Premiere, 6 cores will not help over 4 cores. If your ram preview is laggy then maybe get more ram. This does not warrant the building of a new rig. smile.gif

So really no upgrade? Well my biggest issue is this. My PSU is like on its way out I believe, and the rendering is taking a while. So ramm is all I need to get? What is a good SSD to get and a good PSU? My ramm is not even 2 months old, but when I turn the computer on the computer boots turns off and on and off and on untill i physically turn it off while its doing this, then I turn it on and hold the power button.. I figured something was going.. anything? Any idea's an thank you for the help guys!

My rig used to do the exact same thing and it's down to the P67 chipset, I used to own the asus p8p67 Pro. i changed to a Z77 motherboard and all is great.

I recommend you overclock your cpu 4.5ghz+ and get an SSD The OCZ Vertex 3 and 4's are good drives. For PSU look for either a Corsair, XFX, Antec, Seasonic units.

If the 2500K is too slow for you, then you have a problem that can't be solved with a CPU upgrade.

If the 6950 is too slow for you, then you have a problem that can't be solved with a GPU upgrade.

First and foremost, more RAM, try that for cheap and see if it helps. Next move, SSD as either a boot/program/work drive, or you could dedicate it as a project drive. I suggest the Sammy 830 series, probably the 256GB version if possible.

To be honest though, if you are having trouble with that much hardware power, I would be looking at software as the culprit. Is the system clean? Do you have gunkware? junkware? are things setup properly throughout to leverage hardware as best as is available?

if you doing video editting and using Photoshop/After Effects as well at the same time.
Having 16GB would help out, I top out 8GB nearly on a daily basis with just Illustrator and Photoshop biggrin.gif

I mean I guess I got to look into it a little more. And i'm pretty sure the system is clean. I'm going to run some tests tonight and make sure everything is cleaned out. I'm gunna be ordering a SSD tommorow morning. I will be going from there. I may order more Ramm as well. The 6950 does me fine for right now, untill future games that I wanna run maxed out. (Sleeping Dogs) I guess I just need to learn to OC it. Is there any solution to why its turning on and off and how to get it to stop? Chewy has said his did that till he got the Z77 series, but I'm not sure if I have to run that route.

Under advanced tab in the bios theres an option called "apm" make sure power on by pcie is enabled.

This helps the doubling booting issue but mine still used to do it now and again
