Stay away from the XFX HD 7970 DD unless you wanna lose your hearing no the XFX cooler is the second worst cooler ever made nosie wise
Asus. Gigabyte and Sapphire cards with custom coolers are much better

Its either the Asus or Sapphire card for me now, which card is better in terms of overclocking performance and noise? How much better is the vapor x compared to the dual x?

The Sapphire HD 7970 Vapor-X is a new design. The cooler is the same one used in the Sapphire HD 7970 TOXIC 6 GB. The chip is the HD 7970 Ghz edition running at 1050 Mhz boost speeds.

The HD 7970 Ghz chips have a boost voltage of 1.218v which is higher than the HD 7970 which uses 1.175v. It should be easy to run HD 7970 Ghz at 1150 Mhz without changing voltage. You could overclock higher with voltage tweaking using Sapphire Trixx. IMO if the HD 7970 Vapor-X is only 20 - 30 bucks costlier get the Vapor - X. If its more than 50 bucks you could consider the Sapphire HD 7970 OC Dual X.

But the problem is they don't sell the vapor x here in singapore, so thats gonna be a problem. I think I will get the Dual X and flash the Ghz Edition bios on it. Does Sapphire pick good quality chips like what Asus have done with the DirectCU II Top edition cards?

The Sapphire Dual X is a good card. It has the DUAL BIOS feature. So its safe to try to flashing HD 7970 Ghz edition BIOS. Or you could just manually overclock using Sapphire Trixx . If you get a good chip, this card can do 1250 Mhz speeds with voltage overclocking.

So Sapphire doesn't pick high end chips? frown.gif
Is there a difference between the GHz Edition and normal 7970 in terms of hardware? (I'm talking about the reference ones)
Which cooler will give me better temps? DirectCU II or Dual X?

Reference HD 7970 has a default voltage of upto 1.175 depending on how its binned. default clocks 925 Mhz. Reference HD 7970 Ghz has a default boost voltage of 1.218v. default clocks 1050 Mhz boost . But stay away from the ref design. the cooler is loud and ineffective for high overclocks.

Asus Direct Cu II TOP might need a BIOS flash to enable higher voltages. Sapphire Dual X is completely unlocked. IMO get the Sapphire HD 7970 OC Dual X.
