It hasn't shiped out yet, I can still change it. What exactly is RIVE?

I ordered the DC2 because of it's cooling capabilities. Is it worth it to get the 3820?

You need to cancel your order and read the 680 voltage thread, stat!

ASUS Rampage IV (4) Extreme is for the i7 2011 socket 3820 CPU. quad core, but with muscle.. more over the 1155 socket,
but can be overkill on gaming. the base platform for the 3930k or the monster 3960x. but you must have already ruled this
combo out somehow.
DC2? the 3570k is a real quad core and the 3770k is quad with hyper-threading (8-threads)

I did cancel it out, for a few reasons. The main being price. The motherboards for the 2011 platform are very expensive.

TBH, For the price of the x79 chipset, I could get 2 GTX 670's.

To get a z77 board with hotwire you're going to spend the same amount of money pretty much. And with that I think x79 is a much better platform especially for the longterm. Btw, you can get an openbox RIVE from newegg for under 300, fyi.
