will xbox 720 really be as powerful as they say? - Page 4

It's always a cycle. New consoles come out and everyone gets worried the PC is going to die. Then around the middle of the consoles life PCs start to make a comeback after they hype of a new console is over and everyone is happy again thinking PC gaming is back. PC gaming is always going to be right where it is in the market it just seems better or worse depending on what consoles are doing.

With that being said. I highly doubt the xbox will have 16 cores and there is no way it's going to be $300 bucks. I will stick with my PC. Just wish EA would get there head out of there butt and start making sports games for the PC again.

sure the xbox 720 is going to have 16 cores with boost overclocking and the equivelant of 7970s in crossfire and a raid storage system all across 4 ssds. also rumor has it that whenever it redrings it grows a pair of wings and flys back to the warehouse for RMA

where do you get your info?

in the specifications leak, ive heard things such as 16 core processor, with games utilizing all 16 cores, and a graphics card comparable to highest end 7000 series gpus... all for under $299 apparently
will this put pc gaming to an end?
Lol I assure you, it will not, nor ever.

You clearly didn't look at the specs of the CPU. Compared to current processors at that time, it was better. I never said cores mattered. How about you check the cache and speeds then get back to me?

The completely obvious reason being that they'll need time to develop everything and they won't just throw together a bunch of new parts right before they show it. I'm sure it's already in development, so what GPU do you think they are using right now? Let's say it is a BRAND new 7000 series GPU (which it won't be). So if they release it a year from now....they are going to be using a GPU that is at least a year old. Pretty old in computer terms.
And that reasoning is not even considering the price that would result from using brand new hardware. Say they put just a new, middle of the line, GPU in their new console, well that would be easily $200 right there. For that 1 part. Using new materials, the cost of the new console would be $700-$1000 depending on how much of a discount Microsoft gets by buying in such bulk. There's no way they'd start the price THAT high at launch. $500 at max.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they wouldn't use brand new hardware, but there's just no way I see that happening.

Your reasoning is completely unfound. Consoles don't just grab a PC GPU and slap it in, and if history has shown you anything, you would know that AMD/IBM/Nvidia are working on the new console's GPU/CPU way ahead of the release date. You are bringing PC comparisons in here when they simply don't apply.

Only a handful of the people posting here have done their homework... Please do a little research before trying to embed your false statements into other people's heads. To the people that actually know what they are talking about, thank you for checking the facts.

the known facts thus far are that the system will have 4gb of ram, 64bit, the graphics will be a 7xxx gpu designed just for the system.

the system should come out at 399 for the kinect 2 system.
these are all things outlined by MS, also the devkits confirm this.

Hopefully it has at least a quad core cpu, that would make most games quad core supported on PC wouldn't it?

Unlike the current gen was, I HIGHLY doubt the "next gen" will be as close to PC gaming in terms of visuals/resolution/framerate as the xbox 360 was at the time of it's release.

A xbox 720 or w/e you want to call it HAS NO CHANCE OF BEING MORE POWERFUL THAN A HIGH END PC IN TERMS OF ANYTHING.

You aren't going to optimize a 7750 or w/e gpu they will have in it enough to beat out quad 7970's IT WON'T HAPPEN.

Plus by the time these new consoles are released we are going to have like gk110's....
