Not only that, I have heard a bunch of the hubbub on how I should've went with an i7 and how I need to go Nvidia or AMD for a cpu etc etc. I'm really trying to make this a one time thing that will last me atleast a year or 2 and so it's hard not to go with the higher end stuff, though I don't know when any of that stuff will be put to use.
Side note: What do you use 4 7970s for?
Yes my board does have usb 3.0 and maybe sata III but otherwise I think is fairly entry level.
Thanks for the help I guess it will depend on how many years something like the 3820 could outlast a 2500k.

Your 2500K motherboard and PSU are all fine. You are going to go to x79 and not notice a difference. I highly urge you to get your 7970, as its a nice card, keep everything else, and just get a nice monitor. Never buy today for something you may do in 6 months, because odds are, you won't. If you were ready to go to tri 7970s today, then we'd be discussing motherboards. I have hardware OCD, I know what its like, but you have to fight it or it will get the best of you. As I stated, I am all for going big, but dont buy parts not to get ready to go big later, because you probably wont do it.

As for folding, 7970s suck for folding. I tried mine and got about 10K each. GTX 580s get in the 20s, and they are over a year old.

Purchase a 7970 and higher end monitor, and PM us later to thank us for saving the rest of your money smile.gif
