Well now I can get the 7970 i want but I also can sell my 570 which was going to happen anyways and pick up 2 6950 unlocked to 6970, would this be a better route for gaming at 7680x1600 or just one 7970 and then crossfire later when i get more money but thats going to be like a year or more

I personally would go with a 7970 (preferably MSI lighting or Asus DCUII), put it under water and OC the hell out of it. While CF works quite fine it has its quirks and in some cases it's not that stellar (depending on the particular game). The 7970 is more consistent in its performance, plus the extra GB of vRAM give a bit more headroom.

Whats your budget. If you can spend around USD 620 you could grab a couple of Gigabyte HD 7950 OC .

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414

These cards overclock well with voltage tweaking. clock for clock diff between HD 7950 and HD 7970 is around 3 - 5%. HD 7950 (1.1 Ghz) is similar to HD 7970 Ghz (1050) performance. amazing value for your money.

my budget is 500 but only want to spend 400 right now so i think im leaning towards the new tech of pcie 3.0 and the 7970 how long until the next gen of gpu from either side do you think someone told me q1 or q2 of next year and should i wait for them or wait for prices to go down or just buy now for about 400 a stock to msi one for 450 because if i cf ill need a newmobo which i was like ohh no ill be fine just no AA and the 7970 oc at 1250 should be great.

Yeah your motherboard does not suport dual x8 mode for CF / SLI. Thats the minimum speed required for CF. x4 is just too slow. If you can wait it out till Jan 2013 it might be worth the wait. For USD 550 you might be able to grab that beast GTX 780.

http://techreport.com/articles.x/22989/3

"The Nvidia executives we talked with raised the possibility of a GK110-based GeForce being released this year only if necessary to counter some move by rival AMD. That almost certainly means that any GK110-based GeForce to hit the market in 2012 would come in extremely limited quantities. "

The Tesla K20 which uses the same GK110 chip is scheduled for Dec 2012 launch. So you can expect a Jan 2013 launch for Geforce GTX 780.

GTX 780 is the true high end successor to GTX 580. The card will have ample bandwidth with a 384 bit memory bus. If Nvidia can release that chip at 850 Mhz that would be enough for GTX 580 SLI performance. Add to that the OC potential of 28nm and its just going to be a freaking beast. You can also wait for AMD's answer in Jan 2013. If AMD can release HD 8970 and compete with GTX 770 (the GTX 570 equivalent in the GTX 700 series) and provide good price perf that should be good. thumb.gif

I will be glorious because the 670 only has a 15-30% increase over my 570 so i really thought to upgrade at least 2 gens after not 1 and maybe ddr4 will be out for the taking next year as it is being built up to be a standard
