Completely new to water cooling

I plan on setting up a custom water cooling loop in my system (in my sig) at the moment I am running a H100
I have no idea even where to start on any of the parts and plan on buying the parts over time around 2-3 months
So my questions are going to be what parts would I need fans, radiator, tubing, liquids etc etc...price wise I couldn't say since I know nothing about this, I expect to spend a big chunk of change and want to know what my goal to get to would be, I want the best or second best products and am willing to spend the money to get them. I don't want issues with sub par products or things I will have to change often, I only want to do the occasional normal maintenance and part changes.

I have a Corsair 650D which I would assume would be big enough for a loop connecting my GPU and CPU?
If need be I could upgrade my case. I want it for the great temps, the quite, and ofc the looks tongue.gif
I have read through these forums as well as a couple of guides for noobs and have a grip on what I would need, I just need the specifics like brands and parts that are better than others to set me into motion. At the moment I am a noob with OCing as well but have been reading and learning and want to be able to have a system to help me learn and have my limits higher than just air or closed loop water cooling systems like my H100.

Any help and opinions are accepted and am willing to listen to every thing and everyone, what I am mostly asking for is the help to put together my system. If any one with a 650d has a water cooling setup maybe you could post pictures so I could get ideas on how to set up my loop after I get all the parts and am ready to get down to work. I know some things from the forums and guides I have read just need everyone's collective knowledge here to help build my confidence and take the next step in making my rig something I can look at and be proud of! thumb.gif

First, you need to read this and this. These links will help you have a full understanding on water cooling and how to get started.

You can setup custom water cooling loop in any case, even if its an mini-itx case.

Good luck. thumb.gif

I will be quiet honest, it would be a total waste to water cool. The Fx 6100 is not a hot chip, and if you want something to be proud of, then upgrade you CPU to a piledriver chip when they are released. You will see a bigger benefit with that type of an upgrade vs watercooling.

Makes me want to wait for the steamrollers haha, those are apparently supposed be way better!

I would say start with a kit. Like the XSPC kits.
I have one of the Rasa kits and I love it. It is a great place to start with water cooling.

I would say go for either the 240 or the 360 kit. The 360 kit will be able to hold both the GPU and the CPU. I like water cooling because of the lack of weight on the motherboard and the nice low load temps.

check out some other posts and see what the largest radiator your case can fit. Some can fit the extra thick rad which is great for cooling.

One 360 rad is not enough for cpu and gpu in a loop. But I do agree, that XSPC water cooling kit is a good start.

.....they are making steam roller CPUs? No doubt they have the same terrible architecture.

AMD should really stop making CPUs. Or at least use phenom architecture on the 22nm chip technology.

Look, I understand that you are probably and AMD fan boy. I used to be myself. Do yourself a favor and get an intel chip and be done with it. Haswell chips are going to be coming out in a while, so just get one of those chips and a Z** board and you will have a crap ton more performance than anything AMD will come out with.

Typically, 120mm of radiator space + 120mm more radiator space per component cooled is recommended. A single 360 radiator can cool a CPU and GPU perfectly fine.

@thrasherht I will have to check into those, I read a few things about them just never checked into them fully.

@DigitalMonkey Yea I will check into those also, if my GPU is not water cooled thats not to bad the DirectCU II's are pretty quite, the video card and my front case fan (stock) are the only things I can ever hear, other than the faint clicking on these cougar fans I bought recently.....lol

@Tjj226 Angel Actually I am not a AMD fan boy, I bought AMD because they were cheaper and from what I read were supposed to be great cpu's I am not opposed to either intel or amd, or amd vs nvidia, I go for performance and being that this was my first build I wasn't as knowledgable as I would have liked to be biggrin.gif at this point the only thing that has held me back from switching to intel is that I have no funds left and I don't want to upgrade if new chips are coming out soon, I tend to stick to performance over brand tongue.gif One thing that made me mad is right after I got my mobo and fx cpu the ivy bridge cpu's released and killed the bulldozer, not to mention the fx's didn't get great reviews....you live and learn smile.gif

Hi, welcome I see some real potential in that case smile.gif
Top with 240 radiators, back with 120 radiator, both with push/pull fans.
A pump with a reservoir on the top between 3.5" and 5.25" bays.
GPU full face Waterblock on your HD7970 plus a Waterblock on the CPU!
And of course some fittings and tubes.

If the noise is the issue and you want it quiet then go with Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 120mm radiator for the back and Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 240mm on the top with Scythe Gentle Typhoons 1150 RPM. If you do not mind it a bit more intrusive then go with Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Full Copper 120mm on the top and Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Full Copper 240mm on the back, with 6x Scythe Gentle Typhoons 1850 RPM if the space is not the issue. If the space is the issue the stick to NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper and faster fans.

With the pump you have got a choice between D5 and DDC (especially 18W version), for both of the I would recommend custom tops. Reservoir of your own choice!

If it comes to waterblocks I would recommend EK Supremacy Copper for the CPU and full face EK Waterblock for your HD7970 if it is reference design or EK Supreme HF GPU and loads of heatsinks for RAM and VRMs if it is not reference design.

Tubing is up to you again, but read some articles on plasticizers and of course fittings...

All that is obviously my very subjective choice of parts. In the end you will have to decide how much money you would like to spend on it...
