This may sound stupid, but 30fps for a prolonged time actually hurts my eyes for some reason, and not including the fact that it's hard to play at that frame rate anyways.
I could care less how it looks, but the locked at 30fps is a deal breaker for me. Sucks.

Some journalist previews state that it's a more constant 30 fps compared to the stuttering on the consoles. Should at least be better in that way tongue.gif And hopefully some mods are able to fix the limitations if possible.

For those of you who are wondering what an upscaled image looks like here is a comparison I did with Serious Sam HD which allows you to play around with the internal framebuffer:

1152p -> 1152p (My Display's Native Res)

720p -> 1152p (Upscaled to my native res)

It looks even worse while viewing it live. With 1920 displays being as common as dirt and 1440p displays being affordable there is no excuse for this. My guess is that they build this engine from the ground up exclusively for the PS3. They probably built it so exclusively for the PS3 that they would have to rewrite significant parts of it just to get it to be customizable. I don't know if they're just too incompetent to realize what kind of work it needed to be ported over to the PC or if this is just one big cash grab. Either way this is a game I wouldn't buy even if it were $2. If they did a 180 and made it worthwhile I would get it. I would never buy this game in this state. I wouldn't even play it if it were free. It may be a difference experience from my other games but at least my other games aren't super blurry or locked to 30FPS when I play them.

Dark Souls runs on a game engine which I think Is built by Sony and It was specifically designed for the PS3 It's called the PhyreEngine, i don't think I has PC compatibility so this makes it even harder to port, I understand that they are struggling to port it to PC but this could turn out as one of the worst PC ports of all time, why lock it to 30fps when you could give people the option to lock and unlock it?

Dark Souls is a great game but for a PC game It's carrying a hefty price of £29.99 I was considering pre-ordering It but I predict It'll be a major let down.

FromSoftware doesn't owe you anything, You can go ahead and voice your opinions about how you think you deserve more, I'm not trying to stop you, I'm just letting you know don't deserve more.

Like I said, this is about as sad as the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy. People felt like they were entitled to a better ending than what they got, when really they weren't. But of course, when people don't like something, they go to their little forums to start complaining and crying about how they didn't get what they want, like a baby. You know what happens when a baby doesn't get what it wants? It takes what it wants. For all of the people here saying they won't buy or play the game, come August 24th, I guarantee you half of those people will still pirate it.

This makes me even more confused. The 30FPS lock can be related to something dumb like linking some physics or animations to the frame rate but if this is indeed a multi platform engine then why is it so hard for them to give us a flexible resolution. It might be like lordikon suggested that the UI is placed based on pixels but even if that is the case they should still have the option to run the game on higher resolutions. I have hacked many old games to run 1080p and if the UI is pixel bound then it just shrinks and goes down to the left corner (usually). Sure the UI does not look as nice as it used to but over all the game and gaming experience is improved by getting the graphics to show at the screens native resolution.

Its no sense of entitlement. People asked for a PC version. They decided there was enough reason to make it and some good money could come out of it. But now nobody wants it because they made it look like crap.

If youre struggling to port it, thats one thing, but say youre struggling to port it but somehow lock it down to crappy res and fps, thats like: headscratch.gif

Still, the news is disappointing, but I still will probably buy.

I agree that From Software doesn't owe PC gamers anything, but at the same time, PC gamers don't owe them anything either. Yes it's awesome of them to bring the game to the PC, but it's not like they're doing it out of the kindness of their heart, a decision like they're making costs hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars, and they're doing it to make a profit on another platform. As the producer of a product they have the responsibility to ensure they're creating a product that people will actually want. I'm sure they'll sell a fair amount of copies, but they won't be doing themselves any favors by doing a shoddy port. I doubt it would take more than a month or two for 10 developers to clean up the code base to allow for resolution-independent gaming, among other settings that could be tweaked, like anti-aliasing, texture quality, view distance, etc.

There's also no reason to lock to 30fps unless they did some horrible coding that depended on frames being 0.0333 seconds long as opposed to just using a time delta from frame-to-frame.
You'll often see me stand up against people claiming everything is a console port. For example, Crysis 2 and Skyrim were NOT console ports. However, this game sounds like it is, the engine or architecture being used in the game has not been adapted well for PC. It sounds like the bare minimum was done to get this to run on PC, and that's it.
Pathetic.

i hope you have a chance to read this even though its 10 pages after your comment

but i think the reason they do a completely loyal port is that they dont want to piss off / surprise their console fans

imagine the alan wake situation happens again :

"wait a minute, why can the PC version look like THAT? i dont need this piece of crap on my console, I'm going to PC"

a lot of those gamers switch to PC, and some of them are bound to pirate the game, and then the developers / publishers feel like piracy is to blame.

I'm neutral in the whole console vs PC argument, but this is the only way it would make sense. Well, either that, or they only have $500 of fundings to do the port rolleyes.gif

god I hope not, developers should make the best game that they can given the time and budget they have. If I hear of any developers intentionally holding back their games on specific platforms, rather than just being lazy or budget-limited, it'll be boycott time. In fact, they'd possibly be getting a little game developer to game developer letter from me, describing to them just how much fail they've created.
