Is anyone else waiting for retina like desktop displays?

Thread Starter
It seems that no one is waiting for retina like desktop displays that should come next year and are instead buying the Korean monitors.

I am waiting for some 4k desktop monitors for my next purchase. Anyone else?

just to be true: we would need to get atleast 200% more performance of gpus to drive a 4k
this means next year gpus need a 75% performance bump - while amd only states 20-30% more performance - nvidia could release a monster but thats not sure and even a monster would only give a 50% performance increase from current cards
going from the 50% performance bump next year we would need a 100% performance bump from 2013 to 2014 and i dont really think it would be possible
this basicly means that we would have to pay around 1000€ to crossfire or sli the highend gpus in 2014 just to play a low-medium settings

why i took 2 years ? intel states that the first high-end consumer monitors will be 4k in 2 years

as for the IBM T221 - its a nice monitor - but quite low refreshrate (it needs quad-link dvi to get 48hz - with duallink it would be only 24hz) - if you really want one - i heard you can buy those for 1000€ when they are used

i mean 4k would be really nice, but seriously - its way to high for the next few years unless a miracle happens for the gpu side, i guess by 2016 it would be fine

I'm thinking that 3840×2160 is going to be very expensive for quite a while after they hit the market. Not to mention the video cards to drive one at an acceptable refresh rate. So I'll happily stick to my Korean monitor 4k is actually out, and consumer friendly.

i personally cant wait. would be great to get rid of my current Acer 23" 1080p monitor (its garbage ha ha) retina desktop displays will be fantastic when they decide to release them.

Honestly these should last us long enough for 8k to come out. In order to run eyefinity 1440p on one of two cards is going to take a few years before we'll see 1080p levels of performance. (2 megapixels vs 11 mexapixels) at which point eyefinity 8k would be 99 megapixels.
