I can't quite guarantee it will that noticeable performance wise, but it will give you so many less headaches; I just came from a 30gb vertex to this samsung 128gb

If you purchase a SATA3.0 drive you'll be unable to utilize 6Gb/s speeds due to your platform. A M4 will be locked at SATA2.0 speeds with your current board, in other words you wouldn't see any performance increase other than space increases.

Yup, it should be faster. Sata 2 cap is 300mb/s and the x25 doesn't reach/breach that. Noticeable performance? Probably not. But buying one of these doesn't forbid you from upgrading your motherboard down the line, too.

Good luck thumb.gif

Save for the 256gb - the 128gb performs similar to the 64gb, while the 256 is a whole new tier

Yea 128GB is good enough space and would be a good upgrade from a 40GB one. Just don't get the M4, you'd be better of getting Kingston HyperX for almost the same price, but with better write and read speeds.

Yeah, sure. I upgraded from an Intel X25-V 40GB (strictly speaking, Kingston SSDNow V 40GB which was a rebrand) to an Intel X25-M 120GB and it made a noticeable difference, particularly when it came to sequential writes. The X25-V is capped at 40MB/s write due to the smaller number of NAND dies and it's a lot more prone to degradation (speed-wise) because of its lower capacity.

A Crucial m4 should be even faster than my X25-M.

P.S.
Whoops, missed the part about the Crucial m4 vs Kingston HyperX. I agree, the difference between the two would be unnoticeable on SATA2. Heck, even on SATA3, it's really only noticeable in benchmarks. In real world usage, you'd be hard pressed to tell one modern SATA3 SSD from the other.
