Overclocking is a disease and you all are enablers!

It's true. Not even a year ago I was a normal part of society. Then, when my old install of XP crashed on my MacBook I had to go out and get a new copy. Unfortunately, the cheapest copy of XP I could find came with a computer! A very old AMD socket 754 3400+. Back in its day, it was a top of the line system. Antec case, Thermaltake PSU, and loaded with overclocking features. I bought it and took it home and as I was loading XP on to my Mac I got to tinkering around in the BIOS. I did some research and pushed it to a solid 2.4 Ghz stable. Then I pushed my brother's old Pentium 4, then a friends Core 2 Duo, then the family computer that was built by an IT guy. That system was a AMD Phenom X4 9600 Black Edition and after getting my first taste of an unlocked multiplier I needed more. Since then I moved through an AMD Phenom II X3 B73 (that unlocked to a X4 973) a FX 4100 (Currently at 4.0 Ghz in the better half's system) and then the venerable Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition. It's an AMD heavy list to be sure, but if Intel would unlock some lower price chips it wouldn't have to be. i3 2100K and I would be on it like white on rice.
Alas, I'm rambling. Starting from square one less then a year ago I have become a stark raving lunatic with PCI cards and SATA cables laying all over the apartment. I bought a $5 graphics card just so I could push it until the magic smoke escaped from it and I considered it entertainment. People like you are the ones that did this to me! I will never be a normal biology student this way! Damn you all! Oh, and thanks. I would have never made it past 2.33 Ghz on that old 3400+ without you.

I'm not giving up on being a biologist. Genetics is my area of expertise and in many ways Genetics is very similar to programming. Just a deranged. chaos driven form of programming with A, C, T, and G instead of 1 and 0. Three character codons instead of 8 character bits, and viruses instead of... well, so the viruses are actually about the same.
