Need help choosing a GTX 680

Hi guys,

Decided to upgrade from 470 to 680, but I need some help picking the right one. From what I've read, EVGA seems to have the best graphics card warranty right now, but the problem I have with them is all their cards have box cooler with blower fan - too loud for me. (I know the Signature 2 has two fans, but they're similar to MSI's Twin Frozr cooler, quite loud). I flat out refuse to buy Gigabyte because they've screwed me over twice with warranty and stuff. MSI Twin Frozr/Lightning, as I said, is too loud. And the remaining option is ASUS DCII. Not interested in any other vendors.

What do I go for? I've already got an Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus II, it's a super quiet cooler but isn't listed on Arctic website as compatible with 6xx series; does anyone know if it will fit? If it does, I can just buy an EVGA reference card and change it myself.

So yeah, need some suggestions/opinions.
Thanks! biggrin.gif

NVIDIA only because I use 3D Vision a lot. I could go with 670, but I'm hoping to get a 680 and be done with it for the next 2 (possibly 3) years or so. Can't afford to change cards every year/refresh.

Lightning is too loud? Mine was silent on the stock fan profile and still stayed at 60C, even at 1350/7000. Amazing card.

Thanks for the links Pontiac, looks like the ASUS DCII is the only option I have. And dph314, I'm a bit too receptive to fan noise, so I don't really want to take the risk because I've read at a lot of places about the noise from MSI cards. redface.gif I'll skip them.

Also, turns out the Accelero Xtreme Plus II isn't compatible because of the stacked power sockets.

how much vram uses 3d vision vs regular "2d" graphics on display?

There's a hell of a difference due to the resolution increasing across the three monitors, whereas 2D is still much lesser even when using a 30" screen. In other words for 3D vision, the 4GB cards would be more preferable.
