Need help choosing a GTX 680 - Page 2

if you need heavy memory load better get 4gb/3gb video card if you get 2gb you will be bottlenecked(having less fps than having a 4gb version for example 670 GTX vs 680 GTX) by memory amount @OP

^^ Exactly and I know a guy who's suffering from 3D vision while running 580's in Quad SLi.

Just tried it on Skyrim. 2D used ~830MB, 3D used ~1020MB. 1080p, High Quality, same scene in the game.

We're talking about 3D Vision on a single monitor, not NVIDIA Surround. tongue.gif While there is an increased use of memory in 3D, it's nowhere as near as what Surround needs. As far as I'm aware, the processing power of the GPU is what matters because it's having to render left and right frames instead of a single standard frame.

I'll have to look at benchmarks of memory consumption in 3D on the 680s now, thanks for bringing that point up, Pontiac.

I think it comes down to preference. I went with a Gigabyte Windforce 680 and ended up having buyers remorse after constantly seeing more and more benches putting the card so damn close to the 670. I'll be ordering a 670 here within the next few days. Sorry about youre problems with gigabyte, but oh boy does the windforce X3 keep that card icy.

throwback8, I read your post this morning and spent pretty much the whole day looking through reviews and videos and whatnot. And guess what? Just placed an order for Windforce GTX 670. biggrin.gif Decided to give Gigabyte another chance, plus it was also the cheapest of the non-reference cards besides Palit and some other companies I'm not interested in.

So yeah, problem solved; thanks chaps!!

I don't really have the patience to test stuff and do benchmarks, I usually quit half the way through. redface.gif But I'll see what I can put together ..

MSI has seriously outdone themselves with Twin Frozr IV. I would definitely go with the Lightning edition of the 680. It's overclocked, runs very cool, and from what I understand has more overclocking headroom than any other 680 out there. $600 is a bit much, but over a reference card I'd buy it.

JCG, I also threw in a Windforce 670, and let me tell you, I have YET to see the card pass 55*C, even thought I am locking in my room, with the entire place heating up like no tomorrow. These Windforce cards run SO COLD.

I would recommend a GTX 670 because it is more bang for your buck.
