My review of LG DM2792D IPS monitor!

This is my short review of my newly purchased LG DM2792D LED monitor. This is a 27 inch monitor with a 1920x1080p resolution. It has an IPS panel, I have confirmed it is 8 bit panel, there is no banding on it.

Below I am going to list the monitors I have , some will be referenced in the review:

Samsung 27a750D 120hz TN panel
Apple 27 Cinema Display IPS panel
Samsung F2380mx PVA panel

This panel has a very fast reaction time, there is little blur with no overdrive compensation turned on( will be referred to as ODC going forward). This monitor gives you three choices for ODC, off, low and high. I found that on off it was faster then my Apple 27 inch cinema display and WAY faster then the Samsung f2380mx with overdrive on fastest setting! It is slower then the Samsung 750d 120hz but that should be no shock to anyone.

With the ODC on low or high it seems to have some overshoot drive as in the image blurs before the object. I also noticed some input lag with the odc engaged. Needless to say I was so happy with it off I have kept the ODC off.

Input lag: Same as the Samsung f2380mx which was less then one frame. If you engage ODC or dynamic contrast etc it increases the lag, kinda like a tv would. The tv will ask you if the hdmi input is for pc, you select yes and you will get perfect 4:4:4 chroma! This is good, the input lag is also reduced to less then one frame when input is labeled PC.

Now, I played a lot of games on it yesterday, Battlefield bad company 2, NFS hot Pursuit, DMC4, SF4, Resident evil 5. Everything looked amazing on this! The blur was very minimal, this is a very fast IPA panel.

Comparing this LG to the Apple cinema display, the cinema display obviously has more pixels but from a one foot on I couldn’t see a difference except the icons and lettering were A LOT smaller on the Apple. Also the LG handles motion better even with no ODC then the Apple cinema display does.

Comparing the LG to the Samsung 750d 120 hz panel is a JOKE. The 750d being a tn panel had sever color changes depending on the angle you view it, it is so bad that the edges turn color when viewing straight on. This is one of the major weakness of this panel. The clarity was not as good as the LG either because it still has an AG filter put over it ( its like plastic).

Uniformity: The LG Dm2792D had the best uniformity of the bunch, the Apple Cinema display came in second and the F2380mx was good too. The Samsung 750d had the worst uniformity of the bunch by far. This panel’s best strength is the lack of motion blur at 120hz or even at 60hz, other then that I don’t have anything nice to say about it.

Overall I am very impressed by this monitor. Below are pictures I took removing the AG filter, my impressions and review are going by if you remove the filter. With the filter on the picture looks somewhat stale and graining, as I am very sensitive to AG filters I had to remove this one. I just had a feeling that underneath it was a beautiful clear picture and sure enough after removing it I got a PRISTINE and clear picture!! I highly recommend this monitor when it hits stateside OR if you want you can purchase on eBay. Mine was made in Korea, I would imagine the ones sold in the US will be made in Mexico. Please keep this in mind, that the review is based off the monitor being made in Korea, so there could be differences (quality wise) when it hits our shores. Any questions let me know! Pictures below!

The AG filter peels off like you would remove a screen protector from an iphone, very easy!:

Patience is the key:

Here is some idea how even the blacks are , as this panel is VERY uniform:
