Oscilation noise? or PSU noise?

Thread Starter
After installing my current video cards I have a crappy buzzing noise when my power sup is under load... or more specifically when playing any game. Really sounds like something stuck in the fan of my psu but I have taken it out and blown all the dust out as well as stopped the psu fan and the noice continues. The only other fan that would have any way of knowing that i have started a demanding game is my pcb fan and I have stopped it also and the noise continues. Is this an oscilation problem or a psu problem? I never had an issue with my two 6850? Really want to get this fixed because I run my pump at a silent speed as well as all my fans... I hate the noise madsmiley.png help

Is it like a whining sound and only during load?

Sounds like you just have some coil whine. Do you have the cards overclocked?

I know on my gtx 570 the coil whine is pretty loud when I max out the clocks and voltage.

I turned them down to stock and below stock since one is an ultra stock is 900mhz but they are both at 855 although both cards are well over the nividia stock clock when EVGA sends them out. I would think with the classified power system they wouldnt do that? anyways I have another PSU in route just to see if it has anything to do with that... but im not sure... the wierd thing is sometimes it clicks and stuff like its somthing that hits a fan every once in a while but on the otherhand it compleetly changes sound when loading a game or the graphics draw goes up?

Well since you have another psu coming, it can't hurt to try that.

If that doesn't fix your problem, then most likely you are just experiencing coil whine. You can contanct EVGA and ask them if an RMA is possible if that is the case.

Hope so... im not going to keep these cards or whichever one it turns out to be if thats what it is... Next step after replacing the psu to try that would be to disconnect one card at a time to see if its one of the two i guess

This is completely normal. As said above its coil while. They tend to vibrate at high loads.

It can either be your GPU or PSU .

You can replace your PSU/GPU if you want but you just get another with the same whine. All my PSU's have done it. tongue.gif

Bad luck... my 570GTX had the coil whine as well.

It has no effect on the computer whatsoever, only to your ears =P
