Just so you guys all know, this thread WILL be watched closely by the Mod team, and if it goes south with politics, or US or NZ bashing, it will be locked, and sanctions will be issued where appropriate.

Everyone be nice, and leave the political jabs out of the discussion.

While this guy may or may not be guilt of whatever they were looking for, this is both ridiculous on both governments ended. I hope that the US judges in charge of this case in Virginia do the legal right thing and drop all that "evidence" taken, since it was acquired by illegal means from another country.

It just goes to show that even in the mildest and most civilized of countries (NZ) the cops need checks and balances and watchdogs because they're always happy to turn into gestapo at the least little provocation.

Sure its easy to say that now. I agree the force was excessive but they were serious charges. Not something one or two officers deal with.

Either way, he owns a file sharing site or "cloud" if you will. And I honestly think if he went down, then that would show the impending doom and future of Cloud Computing. Aside from giving everyone in the MPAA and every major software maker direct delete access to any file, not just their own, and recieving no DMCA notices except for one a few years back, they had nothing to go on. If he had stacks of DMCA notices piled in his trash can, sure, then he obviously has a problem. But he didn't.
And it still wouldnt warrant the kind of force and fire power they went in with. He was in his "red" room with no weapons, in plain site, and not refusing to coorperate. And he still got pistol whipped and kicked and definite amount of excesive force used.

There weren't automatic weapons. It says many times semiautomatic.

This source actually doesn't say. The only mention of the weapons is
