ever heard of the automobile standards and laws?

lol, im not even gonna go down to that level...
at least you're thinking outside the box..but its not very clever

so your saying that because they are laws that makes it ok to copy a technology of another country. but when it comes down to more of a individual level its the opposite?

apple vs samsung is a society norm, phones are now pretty much a necessity, if apple sues samsung and wins, wouldn't that hurt the people and go against the norm (reduced competition and less options). i'm pretty sure your leaders hate the other countries that have nukes, and that they can't use the patent laws against them ("disable your nukes, we invented it frist" , russia says "never")

There's a difference- War Z's devs can barely distinguish their own game from Day Z. You're making massive illogical leaps to make comparisons. Fact is, the video game industry is a beast of it's own (not to mention that Samsung/Apple are pouring money at each other for legal settlements).

Not to mention that they're blatantly lying to everyone saying that they've been working on the game for years, when they had previously put forth that they only just got the idea- a video no less- around the same time Day Z videos first started popping up on Youtube.

The game design industry is all interconnected. They're burning bridges by doing this to someone in the industry. The industry-accepted way of moving forward with this would have been to approach Rocket and offer him a lead dev position on the game (they had their chance, before Day Z blew up and Bohemia committed to the standalone, but they'd already started without him). Very similar to what the big movie studios do with promising independent films. What they've done is outright unprofessional and spineless. This isn't TERA using Lineage code- the devs there loved what they put into Lineage and were crushed when they were told it was scrapped so they tried to save it. This isn't Battlefield moving to modern times because COD did- the WW2 genre was overflowing and most people wanted a change. Battlefield remained it's own game with its own appeals- more about tactics than twitch, with COD being the opposite. This isn't 343i continuing the Halo franchise without Bungie- Bungie sold the rights to it and a good number of their devs left to join 343i anyways.

Had Day Z not been a mod, there would have been patents in place that would have outright prevented War Z from ever even launching unless Bohemia settled for a large sum of money. Just because those patents aren't there, doesn't mean that they shouldn't have observed some level of professional courtesy and respected Day Z's independence.

The differences that the developers have said of War Z are more what you'd expect to hear when talking sequel, not competition. They're not saying what Day Z does wrong on a conceptual level and how they're avoiding the same mistakes. They're actually not saying that they're doing anything other than what Rocket has been saying his long term plans are for Day Z. In their own words:

It wasn't being developed before Day Z, at least not as a Day Z-style game. They claimed that publicly when they announced the game, but they previously stated that they got the idea for a open-world zombie survival mmo in a timeframe that puts it right there with the first Day Z videos...

Also, rather hard to comment on the "feel" of a game that hasn't even released a gameplay video yet...

DayZ is pretty damn rough, when it comes down to it... its seriously buggy, to the point where it will wipe everything you have worked for, simply because you logged out prone?? lulz...

DayZ is getting its props because it is a MOD, and not something that has had serious backing... THAT is where my respect for DayZ, comes from. As a game... its pretty bad... the controls are terrible, visuals lacking and general playability is NOT something i would pay for.

Right now, DayZ is filling a niche that has not been addressed by someone with a bit more production quality... you hear quite a bit about DayZ standalone game, but if it is anything like the current itteration of DayZ, i dont see it being worth much more than 10 bucks or so.

DayZ needs some serious attention to really be anything more than a popular Mod. The Fanboy Bandwagon for this game, is quite strong, right now... once this genre has more than a single option, we'll see how it holds up. I truly hope that their standalong project is a serious one and not simply a port of DayZ, as it stands now.
