That was back when IBM made the deskstar line. When Hitatchi took over, it took a while to get rid of the deskstar's tarnished reputation. Theyre good drives now.

You will not get an answer to this. Everybody is a fanboy when it comes to HDD's and everybody likes a diff brand.
I have a Maxtor, a WD, and a Seagate and none of them have ever let me down

agreed. i knew it would go this way as soon as i saw the title...
they are all good, its just a matter of who is currently cheaper per GB in most cases... unless you get into the raptor range (where clearly cheap isnt the intent) they will all serve you well. just look for sales.

Between my roommate and I, we have about 6 different kinds and 4 different manufacturers, none have ever had any problems....yet. (8 HD's, new to 6 years old)

Raptors do have a 5 year warranty (just got some). Not sure about others.
Raptors are FAST,expensive, loud, and warm. They are worth every penny!

I will buy Raptors and Cheetas (or faster) from now on.

Just my two cents....

That was the IBM Deathstar. Hitachi is 100x better now.

Edit: Looks like HrnyGoat beat me.
