gtx670/680 sli for 120hz monitor?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

For those running a 670/680 sli arrangement, what kind of gpu use/fps do you get on bf3? I have a single gtx670ftw and am wondering how is the scaling? With multiplayer specifically. Im on a 120hz monitor and would love to average at least 120fps. My concern is that I have seen 2 people on OCN with overclocked 2600k's that were only getting 68% (or so) gpu use while playing and both guys reported fps below 120fps. One was a 670 sli and other 680sli Their questions never really got answered about weak performance and before I drop another $450 on a second 670 I need to know if this is an issue.

Currently my single 670 does solid with averages in the 85-100fps range depending on map, but seeing how those 2 sli guys reported performance in sli opposed to only 1 card was very similar it got me nervous about spending money.

Thanks in advance and +rep to those who contribute with good information.

I won't be able to give you a definitive answer until maybe 20 hours from now, but when I was running BF3 at everything maxed with dual SLI 670s, I was certainly not averaging over 100FPS (especially in tight 64 player maps from close quarters). I don't remember the GPU usage though. I'll get back to you as soon as I get home, which as I said will be a while from now.

Scaling is pretty great, If you are really hunting for max FPS here I'd get the card wink.gifthumb.gif

With my 2600k @ 4.7 I get generally 80-98% usage on both gpus. If I overclock them thou it drops quite a bit, even more so on 64p.
So yeah there is a slight gpu bottle neck but still well worth it. I play a lot of games in 3d so..

32p conquest in tanks and infantary I avg about 127fps, in the heli about 107fps and avg 140+ in jets. This is all on Ultra @ 1080p.

I'm doubting his 110fps average eh. Maybe on metro.
Sli 580's here only average 100fps in the jet mission and at a lower res. you hop in a choppa and there is no way you'll be averaging 110fps with sli 580's

Two cards getting a bottleneck from a 2700K? I don't have any hard proof but I was told that my 1090T would be able to handle 7970 CF without any bottlenecks.

Thanks! I I use fraps to data log the match (min/max/ave), do you happen to use that one too?

Thanks for the info, I play as infantry mostly, have you noticed fps average in that scenario? WHat sucks is I almost ALWAYS play on 64player matches. In vanilla maps always, in CQ usually but 32 and less is refreshing. Im curious to upgrade to a 680 and just stick with a single card.

I dont think the bottleneck is the cpu, its the video cards. A lot of people have questioned nvidia for using a small memory interface, and it seems to show in sli arrangements.

lol Im sure 2 would do....I have considered it since prices are as low as some gtx670's. What sucks is im in a few positions right now. Go sli670's (but 64player seems weak in sli), go single 680 and not sli at all (just for higher minimum fps), or go 7970 CF. But Im affraid of drivers in CF which I hear are hit n miss. While I rarely use it, I would also loose my nvidia 3d ability too
