if you buy a cheapo logitech mouse, wouldnt it come with a plastic cord?
not that it really matters that much, just saying.
This solution might also fail on my side. I dont recall seeing cheap logitech mice anywhere. The cheapest one I've ever seen is like $8 USD but its so crappy it doesn't even have balanced feet!!! I bought it and was amazed that logitech has products as bad as this.

G400 is rubber. Type of cord doe not really matter.
It doesn't have to be a logitech mouse. Can be almost any manufacturer. Only thing that the cheap mouse should have is a removable cable with a connector.

8$ Logi mouse would be perfect for the job. Cables are cables, nothing really special about them.

You wont ever know that until you dissect the poor thing though...

hmm...this might be asking for too much since I dont even have a G400 yet, but do you happen to have a photo of a dissected logitech mouse that shows this "connector" you're talking about? Never been good at fixing stuff so its a bit scary to start tongue.gif

Here ya go: 2 disected mice (G3 with somewhat different internals and an MX 518).
The mouse I showed you has this connector. All razer mice that I am aware of have this, although 2 cables are changed within the connector and you have to change them by removing from the connector and placing them in the correct order.

Steelseries Ikari has this connector (ikari cables were crap). IME 1.1 with 2 side buttons has this, Explorer 3.0 has this aswell.

Logitech G9 does NOT. it has a smaller connector. The cable can still be used, but you have to remove the cables from the connector and just attach them to the pins in correct color order.

AH.....by connectors you meant those plugs and jacks thingy huh? so as long as the 2 mice have the same plug there would be no actual wire maneuvering involved

good to hear

how do you figure out all these anyway tongue.gif

Same here, I used to use the G400... its now on another computer but that computer still never has any problems with the G400. Got it on it's release date from logitech.com... maybe a bad batch?

maybe. there are some people that just tend to get duds. 99% of them seem to be functioning though

Well from my experience cord breakage is a use case scenario.

I've had a few mx5xx mice in my days and none of them developed any issues. On the other hand I know plenty of people who went through 518's like crazy. Don't know about the g400 cable - dont own one, soo...

The only mice that malfunctioned on me were Steelseries Ikari Optical and Razer DA Black. Every other mouse I've had worked until I gave it up or sold it.

The only mice that didn't live that long were a bunch of G3''s that got smashed against the wall at LAN's and a WMO that suffered the very same fate. And fixing a blasted G3 with a nail clipper and chewing gum at a LAN isnt that easy tongue.gif

Plus, I dont see them doing this for very long, as they're probably losing quite a bit of money giving away free mice when all they have to do is by spending a lot less over the long run by just putting a better cord on it.

Logitech really dropped the ball on this mouse, you'd think they would have fixed the cord by now with all the free mice they have to give away.
