What happened to TEC CPU water blocks?

I remember a few years ago you could go to frozen CPU and they had a few CPU blocks that had water cooling the back side of a TEC plate. Why are these not produced anymore? Couldn't you get a CPU to near or below freezing depending on ambient temp?

Managing the heat from the TEC plate is the problem. The hot side produces an immense amount of heat and if it's not dissapated extremely well, the cold side is inneffective.

You can still buy the TECs and make your own. IMO the best way to use them is to cool the water, but you still need to dissapate the heat and it's like putting a space heater by your desk. You'd need an array of them to be effective and alot of cooling for the hot sides.

CoolIT used to make closed loop units that cooled the water with TECs. I had one, it kept my CPU idling at 12C but under load the fan was ridiculously loud. I dont' like noise so for me it wasn't practical.

It works awesome, and makes TECs viable for a daily used desktop rig like mine and not just a bench rack smile.gif.

I'm only running the single TEC block, and it chipped 18-20c off my load temp compared to plain WC, and idle @ ~ambient(this is modded to work on a lower wattage 775 system, so it has less heat to handle then a SB setup). In my case I am limited by my ambient - very high temps and high humidity raise my dew point to where the TEC is barely at 50% to keep the block around dew point, but can't go lower without forming condensation on the block. For example, my controller currently shows 26c ambient, 48% humidity, 16c Dew Point. Block is holding its 17c target at only 30% duty cycle.
