Why can't I stream music from my computer to my 360???? HELP!

Since Microsoft seems to be pushing Xbox towards a media center rather than a gaming console, I decided to try to stream my music to it from my PC. ....except I can't get it to work. Both my PC and the Xbox 360 are connected wirelessly to the same Netgear WNDR3700 router.

First i tried to set up Windows Media Center, but it kept saying that the media extender couldn't be found when I typed in the code. So then I tried to just stream it using Windows Media Player, and I can see my xbox on my PC Media Player, it is set to Allow it, but I can't connect. I have tried disabling my firewall, making sure Sharing services are started and still nothing. I even tried disabling AVG thinking that could be blocking it somehow, but none of it works.

What else can I do?? I am open to trying other ways of getting this to work, maybe even some 3rd party programs, if they are free and work. I just want to be able to play music throughout the house.

Thanks in advance.

I've had trouble getting it working reliably myself, but then again I don't use it as a media center just a gaming console.

Try this:

Go to Computer Management. (Just type that into the start menu)
Click Services and Applications > Services
Find UPnP Device Host and click "Restart" for it.

If that works, then your computer is to blame and it's the firewall most likely. If it doesn't, I'd look at your network configuration to make sure UPnP is enabled.

Thanks for the suggestion but no luck. I feel like I have tried everything. I took all the security off of my wireless router just to see if it would make a difference and no luck. If I go to look at the available computers on my Xbox, my computer eventually comes up after about 10 minutes, but it won't connect. Microsoft tech support is really bad. They offer solutions like "make sure the xbox and computer are both powered on.

gee thanks Microsoft, I would've never thought of that.

Well, all I know is it isn't the fault of the console. It really has to be something with your computer or network. For that reason, Microsoft/Xbox support will not be of much help.

Yeah, I can understand that. Oh well. One day I will be getting a new router, we'll see if that helps. Until then, it's not a huge deal. I'm kinda sick of dealing with it. Thanks for your help, +rep
