Did "The War Z" ripoff "DayZ"? Discussion inside. - Page 3

different map, a different engine, and different controls. sounds like a different game.

after playing natzi zombies and l4d, dayz is just boring. run around for hours with about 3 zombies max coming after you.
not my idea of fun.

if war z comes out and is as boring, i will not be buying it, however if they make a game that isn't a big yawn i'll jump on it.

I didn't see any posts on this here, so I figured I'd share. I'm honestly not convinced that they even have a playable beta right now. This dev team just seems way too shady at times.

Especially since it looks like The WarZ is just WarInc reskinned:

Yea, but it's not really a shady thing they're doing, in regards to using assets. They even announced that it's from the same engine as The War Inc., and is done by the same company (just created a new subsidiary for The War Z). That's part of what lends to the argument that they haven't really been developing this for over a year since they're just using assets from The War Inc., and making changes to the engine to accommodate the new game style. Kinda like how Infinity Ward does with the COD:MW series, it helps cut down on development time and costs.

Though I agree it's kinda shady that they're touting all this stuff, and talk about gameplay but refuse to show any videos (and the crappy reasoning Sergey Titov has given -- He claims he doesn't want to upset some sites who were promised world premiere status of gameplay videos). It makes it hard to get hyped for this game because I've played The War Inc., and it was fun at first as a change-of-pace from BF and COD, but its appeal didn't last long, and I think it'll be the same here. They'll undoubtedly get sales from people who are impressed by the screenshots, and then they'll play it for a couple of weeks max and never pick it up again.

It is looking more and more officially like a cash grab on the Zombie Apocalypse Survival game style. Even though many of us had a feeling that's what it was originally, the developers' comments kinda make you second-guess yourself until you step back and look at everything like this.

You people commenting about how DayZ is broken or could be greatly improved really need to get this through your tiny brains:

ITS AN ALPHA TEST for a mod

it was created as a proof of concept. Do you know what a goddamn proof of concept is? A really buggy, broken, unpolished example of something that with a whole lot of work could be something later. Like I said, its an alpha test for a mod, it hadn't been planned to be its own game. You do realize finished mods still have bugs right? Just look at ACE. So an alpha test for a mod is going to have ALOT of problems

But in an alpha you work on adding features

in a beta you work on fixing any issues

You got that?

To me it looks like identical to Dayz (water/food/zombies/weapons/other players/backpacks) but using call of duty mechanics. So far im going to buy the standalone DayZ which i know will probably be good rather than risk buying a garbage ripoff game. My 2 cents
post #29 of 43
It seems people are getting dumber by the day. DayZ isn't going to go very far because it's using the ARMA engine. That engine is known to blow chunks. The melee in the game is a silenced weapon with a 15 foot kill range...... The UI is so outdated it's laughable.

The WarZ is using the same game engine as War INC. However....... How many games have you played that use the Unreal engine, or the Source engine, or the CoD engine..... Multiple games using the same engine...... Why is this a big deal for people?

For those about to quote me and say DayZ standalone will be using the ARMA III engine need to stop now. The ARMA III engine is just an updated ARMA II engine...... Same **** code with lighting/shading upgrades. Nothing worth getting hyped about.
Rocket should have used another company.

For those that keep saying DayZ is in ALPHA...........

Alpha = In house testing of early core components of a game. Alpha state is never allowed to people outside of the development team/family.
Beta = Final testing done by multiple people that have been invited to test/play the game and give feedback.

So NO, DayZ is not in Alpha. You don't just give a mod to the world and call it alpha... You can't even say that a mod is in alpha as the core engine is completely finished.....

I don't think a lot of people get it.

There is a clear difference between using a tried and true formal (i.e. - a zombie game) and mimicking the same workflow very closely (a la God of War and Dante's Inferno, Darksiders and Zelda, etc.).

Perhaps those aren't the best examples, as I hardly think that Darksiders is a ripoff of Zelda (more of a tribute if anything), but Darksiders also came years after OOT was released. The two were not competing, etc.

Day Z and The War Z are competing, and I think it's hard to ignore the similarities and time frame in which both have appeared.
