How to monitor CPU temp while in game?

Thread Starter
I want to see if I should get a new heat sink (if the games I play make my CPU too hot with the stock cooler) and want to know if there is a program that will let me monitor my CPU temp while in game. Something like Fraps that has an overlay for the FPS.
Just run something like Prime95 before you start gaming to check temps. Use RealTemp or HWMonitor to watch.

I downloaded HWMonitor and that works cause it show the max temp. I'll probably get a new heat sink. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO pretty good?

I have an i3-2120. I don't know the clock speed but it just is running kind of hot with the stock cooler. I don't over clock and I don't think I can with this CPU anyway. I just want the degrees down like 5-10 C.

What are your max temps while gaming/Prime95? They are likely high but probably not unsafe for your chip.

With that said, the hyper 212+ will give you much better temps than the stock cooler. If you're looking to lower your max temperatures to a more reasonable level than I think the 212+ EVO would be a cheap option to do so.

It gets to like 70-80 C while gaming. Is the 212 EVO better or worse than the 212+?

Hookup another monitor if you have one. I have CPUID Hardware Monitor Pro, EVGA Precision X, and the task manager with the CPU and RAM graphs on my second monitor at all times. Might be a little overkill but I like to watch my temps and see how certain games stress my hardware.
