Oops I totally forgot about that 955.

OP you'll have to either go in for the Asus or the Gigabyte.

So the Asrock is no good even without Overclocking?

Sorry, I meant that the M5A88M was the other one that you mentioned.

I can't find it ncix or newegg, I don't really know any other US sites, maybe try ebay?

I can only find the LX version, which is not as good as the USB version.

Is the Asrock board decent enough to run a 955 on an htpc? That's all I really want to know. I mean, it says it supports Phenom II and FX chips. Bulldozer chips are high tdp, too.

This one.

If it is going to blow up when I turn it on or something, why? Where do I find the relevant info?

I see a lot of 4+1 talk, but I have no idea what that means, or where you find that info. It isn't listed in the product description.

Hmm. The board I was asking about isn't on there.

How do I find out how many phases it has?

ooh i missed one

the easiest way to determine phase count, is to count the chokes (little grey/black cubes)

There are 4 on the 960GM/U3S3 FX, so we can safely assume it is likely to be 3+1

The ones circled red are the VRMs and the ones in blue indicate the number of phases...which in this case are 4+1.

This should give you a clear idea of what VRMs are and the role they play - http://www.overclock.net/a/about-vrms-mosfets-motherboard-safety-with-high-tdp-processors

So I'm stuck with that board or nothing. Amazon has one used for $68. Think it is worth it? Never bought used on Amazon before

Why do the other boards say they support my chip? Is it really that dangerous to run that Asrock at stock clocks?
