PSU for Ivy Bridge

Thread Starter
This the the current PSU I'm running on:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817815002
It seems like a nice one, had it for a couple years. Solid build, fan is a little noisy though.

I'm going to upgrading to a 3770k, either an Asus Maximus V Formula or an EVGA Z77 FTW, and either 8gb or 16Gb of ram (still deciding if I want to go with 2 or 4 sticks), with an H100 for cooling. I may OC a bit.
I will be keeping my single GTX 260 and my four HDDs - but I will be upgrading my boot drive to an SSD in the next six months (if not now - and keeping the HDD that was boot), and my graphics card in the next year.

Is this Xigmatek up to the task, or do I need to get a new PSU? I'm either buying a new PSU, or spending the money on an SSD.

that one will work just fine still. if you dont have the extra cash laying around, id say stick with that one until you can afford a new one or is gives out.

Ok, thanks. I was just concerned because there seems to be a whole bunch of other power plugs on Z77 boards that this PSU simply doesn't have the cables (or connections to do).
Only downsides of this PSU are that it's not fully-modular, and I will have maxed out the SATA power once I install my SSD.

I really like the PSU. 4 power rails, and not a wattage monster. I'm also pretty sure it saved my bacon twice. Once with a power surge (that for some reason didn't trip my surge protector - that got replaced), and once with a bad graphics card. Both times it shut the system down before damage was done. thumb.gif

I wasn't looking forward to the possibility of upgrading. I'm not a fan of too much that's on the field. You don't usually get into Multi-rail PSUs until 1000+ Watts, and even fewer have active PFC.

+rep for both of you
