Anyways plasma is quite nice if you have a dark room but can seem dull sometimes to me. Panasonic plasma's are really good but i like my sony LED =) but with Sony it does not start getting good untill you drop the big $$$. Plasmas are quite affordable these days for a very good picture.

On a side note I would recommend watching planet earth or toy story 3 for some awesome HD scenes, and if you have not already grab Band of Brothers its an amazing HD show case piece.

and add these to your favorites.

Thoughts? What are the pros and cons of plasma vs LCD or LED?

Bought Panasonic ut50 plasma and I love it. The only downside of plasma is when you watch it with lights on or you have windows near the TV becaause lights will reflect on it. I don't know about the burn in Coz I never see it on my TV. Anyways, this a good buy.

That being said ...
Plasma have always been seen as the "looser" when it comes to Brightness and Colors - But dont be fooled. I went to the store when I was on the hunt for a TV and the seller kept showing me the Plasma - Which to me seemed "Dull", standing there in the store. But really, when you have a plasma standing in a store, with ALOT of lighting around and LED TVs, all in STORE-mode with their SCORCHING colors - A plasma WILL seem "Dull".
I was so lucky that I was offered a demonstration at my own home - It took me 5 minutes (3 of them used to pick up my jaw from the floor) to decide that Plasma was the real deal.
As long as you can put the Plasma so it does not get DIRECT sunlight, its all good. Black Levels are AMAZING - And I mean effin AMAZING on a Plasma, it will blow a LED out of the water. Get The Black Knight on Bluray and have a go on his Plasma - Its incredible!
Colors are MUCH more realistic on a plasma - As in skin colors are actually skin colored and so on. Some people prefer the more aggressive LED colors, a vibrance you can call it - And some, like myself, actully like to notice the details - shadows - and so forth.
There is a slight myth about burn-in and retention when it comes to plasmas - But truth be told, its only really bad at the OLD models (3-4 years old). I am yet too see ANY kind of burn-in or retention on my screen - And I have channels with constant logos on them and I play PS3 games on it. So yah ... Little advice though, I -WOULD- suggest that the first 100 hours you dont watch a static image for more than 30 minutes - Just flick it over to another channel for 3-4 minutes and then back.

Never trust in store displays. The tv settings are sometimes changed so that the more expensive models look better then the cheaper models, when in reality, if both would of been calibrated correctly, there wouldn't be a visual difference.

I have a 50" and a 58" Panasonic plasma and love them. My rooms are set up where there are no problems with lighting. My only complaint is I should have gone bigger. Next TV will be a 65" plasma. I don't think the heat is bad at all, I really think the DirecTV DVR puts out more heat than the plasma TV it's hooked to. Both of mine are a few year old VT10 models and no burn in. You will get image retention or IR if a logo or scroll is on the screen for a long time, but it goes away as soon as you watch something different.

For some eye candy, plasma or LCD, try "Baraka" on BluRay. Shot in a large format film and digitized at really high resolution, "in 2007 the original 65 mm negative was re-scanned at 8K (a horizontal resolution of 8192 pixels) with equipment designed specifically for Baraka at FotoKem Laboratories. The automated 8K film scanner, operating continuously, took more than three weeks to finish scanning more than 150,000 frames (taking approximately 12–13 seconds to scan each frame), producing over 30 terabytes of image data in total. From what I have read Panasonic plasmas this year have a picture that is second to none. Although personally I think I will be going with a Samsung plasma because the word on AVS forums is they are far more resistant to IR than the Panasonic plasmas.

I have a 4 year old Samsung plasma. The first little while I had it, I didn't notice that the default brightness and contrast were over 90% (to help it stand out in the store) and I was playing video games with static menus. I thought I had some burn in, but it faded in about a week of normal use. I was relieved. Now I have the brightness and contrast at 50% and I am a little careful and it's still going strong. I usually zoom in to eliminate black bars on media with the wrong aspect ratio, but still watch a fair portion of stuff with black bars and have no issues. I may notice where the lines were for a few minutes afterwards, but nave no permanent damage.

The color is awesome and it so much more forgiving than an LCD when watching lower quality video! I am very happy with my TV and will almost certainly get another plasma when this one bites the dust.
