How good are audios via dp?

I am using a u2410 and a 7970. I am using a miniDP to DP cable. So how good are my audio qualities when compared with soundcards? and are they affected by overclocks? And I plug my headphone into the monitor. Would HDMI give a higher quality of audio?

Audio quality shouldn't diminish since it's a digital signal. If you plug your headphones into the monitor, even if you had a sound card it will sound just like onboard because you are not able to use the sound card's DAC or amp since you are transmitting in digital not analog.

Overclocks will not effect it unless you had some kind of weird interference problem. HDMI will not improve it either.

Sound quality depends mainly on how good the DAC is (Digital Analog Converter).
Since the DAC is the monitor -> I'm 99% sure it's crap.
Get a proper sound card and hook your headphones to the sound card instead.
