Upgrade Time on SandyBridge Build, looking for input.

Well, it's been over a year and I am looking for some upgrades on my system.

Mainly the RAM and changing from a HDD RAID to maybe an SSD RAID...

I was thinking going to either 16GB or 32GB of RAM, I'd like to play around with virtual RAM disk for a few things and tasks in mind. I have something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231564 these G.Skills in mind. Only requirement is they /must/ be the same height as these. Due to my CPU cooler/

Most importantly, on the upgrade, is SSDs... So far I've only used Intel 320 Series SATA II based SSDs in my laptops. Non-RAID. Though I am curious on RAIDing SSDs in a desktop, I don't know if it is worth doing or not, for an OS and programs drive. Considering the speeds are still greater than what I get from my laptops thanks to SATA III being out now.

Drives I have in mind are Intel 520 Series 240GB SSDs. I was considering a RAID 0 on the onboard Intel SATA 6.0GBit/s controller, any reason I should not go this route?

With that I planned on getting two 2TB Western Digital HDDs of some kind for a RAID 1.

That's pretty much it, I believe. I don't see any needs in upgrading the CPU or GPU at this point. Though any recommendations are still welcomed. Everything I had in mind is about $1,000 worth of upgrades and I would like to try to keep it at least this range.

The 830 series Samsung SSDs are something to look at. I can't imagine the point of RAIDing them personally. They are plenty fast as is. I suspect that raiding this sort of drive will just result in bottlenecks elsewhere most of the time anyway, with no real world (or useful) performance improvement.

For RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226330
1.35V kit, plenty of OC headroom here on both clock and timings. Save money.

How are the build quality of those heatsinks on those Mushkin Enhanced Blackline's? From what I can tell they bolt on. Also, do you have information where someone did overclock these? (I'd like to read up on it to get an idea what these are capable of. thumb.gif )

Out of curiosity, how do the Samsung 830 series compare to the Intel 520 Series?
