Should I choose a 6950, or a HD 7770?

Hi LightMassKiller,

The 7770 is much more of an entry level card, however, is ideal for upgrading computers that may not have the sort of power supply and cooling required to handle "big gun" GPUs. The 6950, is a much more powerful card, but at the cost of much higher power consumption. The 7850 is more or less the "replacement" for the 6950 and uses less power to effectively deliver the same performance and would be the smarter choice unless the price gap was massive where you are.

We will be able to provide much better advise, if you provide more information about the system that is being upgraded, what sort of budget you have, and where you can buy from.

Click on "rigbuilder" in the upper right. Input as much information as you have.

Regards,
Eric

Neither. 7770 would have a performance boost but I would go higher end.

What country? In the UK some 7950s can get as cheap as 7870s. Also, system specifications?

So either get a 7950 or 7850

6950 definitely... Really should consider a 7850 for about $200-230. The latter is slightly better in most benches, and has better temps and power consumption.

United States,

A6-3500 @ 2.67GHz, but will most likely be a Athlon II 631 by the time i attain the card.
4GB 1600MHz RAM
HD 6670
750GB HDD 7200RPM

I play Borderlands, Skryim, Crysis 1 and 2, Max Payne 3, GTA4, Bioshock, Batman Arkham City, and quite a few others.

what brand and model is it and the exact specs of the PSU ? If its from a reliable brand like corsair, antec then you don't have to worry. it will easily run any high end card. Also whats your budget for the GPU.
