Did I just go overboard?

Thread Starter
So about a week ago I decided to upgrade my two 460's into a single 680. Was really happy with the performance but I still felt that I could do better. I kept on saying to myself that if I needed a better solution I would grab another and go sli.

But that what was bugging me I dont want to do sli anymore I want to grab the best single card I can and then upgrade that when I need to, and honestly I didnt want to spend another 500+ on another gtx 680.

So I bought a 690...

Im playing on a 1080p monitor at 27 inches. I may upgrade to a tri monitor setup if I ever get the room, but my main focus in the desktop I currently have with the best card possible.

Did I overdo it? I know im pretty set for a couple years or so now though lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but with the 690, your still running SLI ... Gratz on the upgrade tho. I got to hold a 690 the other day, It was sexy.... NO doubt..

I think 690 is cool but if you had bought two 4gb 680s I think you'd have been really set so you could game in surround without giving a crap.

Either way, damn!

I've been amazed by how well my 690 performs. It really is a monster of a card

I know its tech sli but i mean in the essence its 1 physical card in the system vs two. I guess If i wanted to be nuts I could buy a second 690 down the line.

You'll get use of it in a couple years when more demanding games come out. You'll get use out of it if you want to upgrade your monitors, either surround, 120 Hz/3D, or a hi res 27".

As for now, it'll run cool and quiet, which is awesome.

Basically I fell that if you aren't using it to it's fullest potential now, you will later. So unless you have something more important to use the money for, I don't think it was a waste of a purchase.

^ This. Although, my 7870 runs every game I own (bar metro 2033) perfectly fine at 120Hz/FPS. I can even have a couple of ultra settings on BF3 and get 120FPS (the rest medium/high).

So...

GTX 680's would be able to overclock a lot more than the gtx 690. It's still an awesome card though.
