New monitor suggestions?

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a new monitor, mostly for gaming, minor 3d modelling projects, and some photo/video editing. I was looking at the BenQ XL2420T, but I'm not necessarily looking for 3D and would like some other suggestions. I'm mostly looking in the 22"-24" category, but I'd consider a larger display as long as it's less than 19" in height (with the stand). I'll be using it with a GTX 670 and my budget is around $500. I'd appreciate any input, thanks.

An IPS monitor would be a good choice for you. The Dell Ultrasharp series is very good , and you should look at the U2412m, u2312hm, and maybe the U2410.

HP also makes some great IPS monitors although I don't know much about them.

I have the U2410 and it's a wonderful monitor for work stuff like photoshop.

Thanks for the suggestions, but how do these perform while gaming? I was advised to stay away from >5ms response time monitors for fps games. Is it something I should be concerned about or is 8ms still fine for gaming? Thanks.

I've had no issues at all with my PA248Q when it comes to gaming.

Neither of those are good for gaming.

I would recommend:

BenQ XL2420T
Samsung S23A700D / 750D / 950D
Dell U2312HM
LG IPS277L
or the koreans.

Also read this before making up your mind.

Don't listen to the Hydros anti-1920x1200 propaganda that he trots out every time they're mentioned. The Dell U2412m or ASUS PA248Q are perfectly fine for gaming. In fact, they're better than most.

I am actually now thinking of the Dell U2312HM since is is 16:9 instead of 16:10 and it comes in at $240 on Dell.com as opposed to $299 for the U2412! Plus it has incredibly low input lag of 0.6 according to TFT central.

If you are worried about the U2412's delay you should know that TFT Central's input lag measurements are wrong, both the U24/2312 have around 2ms of input lag, refer to PRAD.de for accurate input lag measurements.

If you want something better get the Asus VG23AH, it supports up to 76hz with custom timings and unlike every single matte IPS panel it does not use a grainy matte coating. It's priced in between the Dells.

Is there an ips display with similar refresh rates to the Asus VG23AH, but without the 3d? If not I think I'll just go with the U2412M. Also, is BenQ XL2420T still worth a look, maybe some other 120Hz monitors? Thanks.
