Also most PSU calculators are terrible, a good 550 watt PSU such as yours can run any single GPU/CPU configuration on the market including overclocks with room to spare.

I would've thought the same, but 3820 and 6950 are quite more power hungry that the setup that I used to run on my PSU which is now 3 years old. This is what I used: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

Even with the modest settings it recommends me a 550w PSU and if I enter all the stuff I have (8 fans, 5 HDDs, fan controller) and add capacitor ageing it shows 650w.

Now as I replaced the 6950 with my old 5770 the issue is gone which could point at the GPU being the problem. However I've tested the 6950 previously in my old setup (q6600) and didn't have any problems with it. In both cases though the power draw was lower, so the PSU is another possible explanation.

The strange thing is that the freezes don't seem to appear under heavy loads with stress testing, benchmarks or games but always happen during internet browsing, watching youtube, reading ocn or using facebook.

HALE90 is over budget but worth it, I'd take it over the AX750/X760. Speaking of which, the AX750 is £130 Inc VAT and not superior to the HALE90 (and the X 760 itself is £144)
The Highpower made OCZ750FTY isn't a bad unit, but you can do better, like the above PSU's. I haven't looked at EU/UK PSU's in a while, there could be better deals out there.

Thanks. I think I'll go with HALE82. Do you know how it compares to other Seasonic based PSUs in the same price range like Corsair TX M or XFX?

As was said before ... SeaSonic 750. Here in the states, they go on sale every couple months or so. Hard to find a better supply.

Corsair or Seasonic 750. It doesn't matter because as far as I know, they are the exact same. Both made by the same company. smile.gif

Thanks. I think I'll go with HALE82. Do you know how it compares to other Seasonic based PSUs in the same price range like Corsair TX M or XFX?
To me this outright excludes a PSU issue because none of these problems occur under load. On top of that you noted in your original thread that it began happening after you ran windows updates, so it really looks like a software issue of some sort. Also, for the calc, you are still fine, easily, and capacitor aging is really overrated for any quality PSU.

It's the same as the TX750v2, XFX Core Edition 750, Antec HCG 750, Seasonic M12II, and a couple others slipping my mind. The only problem with the HALE82 & The TX750v2 for that matter is the 0.50 amp ADDA fan can get quite loud.

I'll have to agree with previous posters I too have my doubt's it's a PSU problem but if the 6950 works fine on another PC and the 5770 works on the current PC all with no problems, who knows. You can run a pair of 6950's on a good 750w..

The TX 750 M isn't Seasonic but CWT, It's = to the TX750v2 in performance and quality IMO. If I was you, I'd buy the HALE90, she's a beaut. (or nothing at all but you seem sold on it being a PSU issue)

Sorry to thread hijack for a bit, but can an AX650 run 2x 6950? Or is the load too much? Non-OCed and OCed of course. smile.gif

It's not the PSU after all as proven by testing the GPU in yet another system. Thank you all for help smile.gif
