Upgrading my rig(s), and it's time to look at hard drive performance. I'm tired of seeing WEI 5.9! But the details keep confusing me...
1. Should I get a SATA II SSD to save money because my 2009 mobo only has SATA 3GB/s speed? For example, would it be wise to get a Crucial V4 instead of an M4? Would the M4 somehow perform better than the V4 in spite of the SATA II bottleneck? I won't have SATA III capable PCs until far in the future (maybe SATA IV by then).
2. Is AHCI completely necessary for an improved user experience? Can an nForce4 mobo without AHCI benefit from an SSD at SATA I / 1.5GB/s speeds? Would putting two SSDs in RAID mode on this board give any benefits of AHCI? And again, would it be prudent to only buy SATA II models?
3. How do I find out if SSD firmware has built in TRIM / garbage collection? What are the most reliable firmware developers?
4. What the heck is "alignment" in regards to SSDs?
5. Did any reputable company make PATA/IDE SSDs? I think it would be funny to turbocharge my old 2001 Compaq.
Thanks in advance.

. For sequential you will be limited for ~185MB/s at best.
