computer giving off heat and noise

Thread Starter
so, its summer over here and its surprisingly hot. to a point that i think it might be affecting my computer aswell.
i notced a couple days ago when it wasnt so hot, and was actually cold, my computer was fine. but tonight (warm night) my computer is making loud fan noises and giving off a lot of heat from the psu fan and the case fan.

is the heat due to my psu overworking? or is it just general, my whoel computer case is too hot?

Morning mate,

Nah that's normal to be honest, your PSU is spec'ed well against your machine and you should expect it to get louder as the ambients go up. A lot of people have winter overclocks and summer overclocks. I personally dropped 600Mhz off my overclock in the summer due to noise and heat. In the winter I didn't need a radiator on in my room biggrin.gif

If you are that worried drop your overclock off if you have one, the fan is just ramping up as per the instructions set in the BIOS.

Regards

Alex

Hey Alex, thanks for the advice! Fun fact, my computer is making no noise and extra heat today so looks liek your story checks out tongue.gif

I've just wondered if my psu is overworking sometimes cuz i got a new video card a few months ago and i wonder if my comps got enough juice to power it. but before i went out to get it, i was consulting OCN members so im sure its fine.

i dont have anything overclocked myself, so i guess some days are just loud and hot and some days are nice and cool lol

thanks again!

What videocard did you get? if you went from an IGP to a 6990, you might need a bigger PSU, but otherwise you're probably OK...

EDIT - if your sig rig is as is, then you're doing just fine.

a decent 500w PSU is pretty much golden for anything up to something like a 570 or maybe even a 670.

Without checking it out i'm not 100% but if you're running your 550ti then you'll have no issues.

hey everyone,

random question that popped into my head -- are there any compatibility guidelines for PSUs? Or is PSU the one part that you just pick depending on the amount of Watts you need?

They all have the same connectors unless you go to server PSU's. Just pick a good quality unit that is around the right wattage.
