Hmm, why would anyone want a 7.1 headset?

And here I was thinking I'm the only person left who uses a desk mic I bought back in the late 90s with my HD595s. cheers.gif

Some people really like USB headsets. A friend of mine who is an audiophile never uses his PC for music. In his circumstances, he wants something that sounds decent and can emulate 5.1/7.1 because it's entirely for gaming and having that surround effect gives him an extra edge in competition play. Not everyone wants to listen to FLAC files with a headset.

Also, the people with the clip on mics sound noticeably worse than people with PC-350s/360s over mumble. I have friends who do both.

I always thought that USB "soundcard" < Real Sound card?

And I have open backed Sennheiser Headphones. Best for "surround" audio when gaming (but not for leakage, as my GF complains often).

My cans sound great for music, I just want a decent mic.

I'm right with you, I'll take good cans and 2.1 any day of the week with a good soundcard or external DAC.

When you start adding up the price of analog 5.1/7.1 headsets with a soundcard that can handle it, you very quickly pass the cost of entry that these are offering. When literally the only thing you use them for is gaming, no music/tv/movies, the whole idea of having really nice headphones becomes a tertiary goal compared to the emulated surround sound and a good mic.

Good communication and a solid edge in competitive gaming is more important than anything.

It'll probably be worse. Generally when something is branded as a "gaming" device its an over priced pos. Not to mention its a 7.1 headset and anyone who knows anything about headphones will tell you to never buy "surround sound" headphones/headsets.

If they put the HD555s in that casing without the mic I'd grab it in a heartbeat. It looks pretty classy tbh.

I came into this thread with a slight worry that I might be forking out the money to upgrade my PC 360's...guess I was a little too optimistic.
