[NBR] ThinkPad X1 Carbon review. The new king for business ultrabooks. - Page 2

The new zenbook ux31a. The trackpad is terrible in comparison to the macbook pro, there's a review on the verge. I used one briefly and didn't like the feel of it - everything else on it is a+ though.

Don't get me wrong, its a great ultrabook. The little things matter a lot to me though, its unbelievably frustrating to get a non responsive trackpad when you're trying to finish up a powerpoint.

Were the newest drivers installed? I heard the initial ones had some issues. I never really spent a lot of time with a Macbook Pro, but I did have a chance to play with my friend's MBA and the trackpads are very similar in terms of responsiveness. I do have a UX32VD, but I think they use the same touchpad as the UX31A.

Haha I do see where you are coming from though. Little things like this can certainly make or break a good user experience. I was playing with my cousin's Sony Vaio E series and I found out there is no keyboard shortcut to turn on/off the keyboard backlight...

Now... to be on-topic, I really like the unique look of the X1. It's a breath of fresh air when compared to other ultrabook designs lol.

Well nothing measures up to Apple on Verge. No offense, but they have a bias in almost every article they write, can't believe I used to read them so much.

Show me another 3 pound, 14" laptop. Oh, what's that? This is the only 3 pound 14" laptop on the market?

Also, nice fail posting an R51.. that's from ~2005.

He's referring to the design lol. Other than the thickness, have to admit that the two look similar.

doh.gif They're both black. If someone switched out an X1C for any other Thinkpad, you'd immediately notice. If someone switched out a MBA 13 for a Zenbook, put an aluminum-looking sticker on the back w/ an Apple logo, covered the Asus decal w/ "Macbook Air" it'd take you a few seconds at least. It took far more engineering talent, failed designs, etc. to get a 14" panel in a chassis roughly the same size/weight as a Macbook Air 13.. than pretty much any other Ultrabook out right now.

Look at the thin bezels on the side, then look at the fat bezels on the MBA 13 and Zenbook Prime.
Trackpad is centered with the space bar - not so on the Zenbook Prime.
Clean trackpad- no ugly, pointless line to tell you left-click vs. right-click.
Fully utilized keyboard space- pg up/down to the left/right of the up arrow.
Zenbook Prime has some ugly hinge-thing that spans the middle ~80% of the laptop's width, X1C's hinges are much more discrete.

So if you really look at the overall design, ignoring color, it's much better not only from aesthetics, but also ergonomics (I won't get into it much- but dedicated middle-click is great, ergonomically curved keycaps, another plus, .

Not to mention, the X1C is probably the most durable Ultrabook out. But if black = ugly, old-fashioned to you, you're probably not the target audience.
