Hi everyone,
After reading all the great reviews about the Caviar Black 1TB I finally decided to buy it.
Apparently I was "lucky" enough to grab the one from the "bad batch."
I've googled around and seems that this is indeed called the bad batch version, some even saying that it's louder or prone to die sooner.
(Apparently the firmware can be "fixed" for the jumper SATA configuration with a WD developer tool called "wdsspd," but as I feel that I was cheated by the retailer & since I bought the drive today, I might return it tomorrow morning.)
Does anyone have personal experiences with this specific drive?
Just for the record, here is HDTune's benchmark result:
WDC WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0
Read transfer rate
Transfer Rate Minimum : 63.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 133.9 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 104.6 MB/sec
Access Time : 12.2 ms
Burst Rate : 151.0 MB/sec
CPU Usage : -1.0%
