People stand up at my work all the time. Sitting for 8 hours sucks, especially with the uncomfortable chairs that we have had for who knows how many years now. I mean most people still sit the majority of the time, but its not uncommon for them to stand up at their computer for an hour or two.

This hasn't been debunked. It's a fact that sitting around all day contributes to being unhealthy. Standing will help but it won't cure all your problems.

And a lot of people who go to the gym dont know what they are doing, easily in excess if 90%. Strength training 3days/week for 2hrs or less each will keep you very very strong and fit for men or women. A lot of people waste a ton of time doing a bunch of nonsense with a bodybuilding routine that they think will make them lose weight or get cut when they have no muscles to begin with. Or they spend hours running on a treadmill only to hurt any strength gains they might have had by training the same muscles to be endurance fibers.

I think the idea is interesting, I think there's one guy at work who normally works at his desk standing. I can't help but think that first few weeks would be oh so unpleasant though as you get used to standing all the time instead of sitting...

Not really, as long as you move. I stand for my most of my work day and I actually work with computers, I work at a small break/fix repair shop. We have stools but they suck and so most of the time I will stand, although I do sit periodically as well.

I am still a fat bugger though because eat terribly, do nothing but sit once I get home and don't exercise at all. I am going to die early unless I get back on track.

"Recommended 30 minutes of activity is not enough" It is if intentional activity.

"Those who sit 3 hours or more watching TV per day are 64% more likely to die from heart disease"

"Each extra hour of watching TV = 11% higher death risk"

"Sitting at 135 degrees puts less strain on your back than hunching forward or even sitting straight"
Which would also cause you to not keep your lower back active, which leads to back pain.

I pulled 75% of the quotes from that ridiculous image just to point out the large amount of correlation without causation. Just... everyone. Disregard this thread.

Standing desks are great if you are a person who likes to move and think. Ernest Hemingway was a big fan. I have both a standing and sitting desk in my study, and they serve different purposes for me. That infograph is hilarious though. As someone mentioned, they are drawing false correlations. It would akin to me saying, "yellow fingernails are killing you." We all know very well that yellow fingernails aren't a causation for death. It is the chronic smoking that does. Individuals that spend all day sitting (a sedentary posture) are more likely to be in poor shape and overweight. Being overweight can contribute to poor health. Poor health can contribute to death. Sitting is a completely natural and acceptable posture for the human body. What other purpose would butt cheeks serve?
