Full load on a A8-3870k

Hey guys, I just wanted your opinions here.

I bought a Cooler Master Hyper N520 to use with this processor, I've no idea what the stock heatsink would've given me on full load, but this thing gives me 55C. I'm not really happy about that because it's huge and with 2 fans should've performed better IMO. I wasn't very sure whether it was my setup or not until I read on Guru3d their review of this heatsink, they show'd the vcore's for their tests and I saw their 1.4 vcore gave a temp of 56C, well I was like *** we both get the same damn thing! That's pretty pathetic honestly, but what do you guys think? Is that to hot for this chip?

Now since I've got experience underclocking my laptop's APU (I replaced an A4-3300M with an A8-3500M but temps shot up to high) and testing it with Furmark and Prime95 I did the same thing with this APU, I got it down to 42C full load IGP+CPU.

What do you think of this? And that's with 7 120mm fans in the case at 1000 RPM's! LOL I can see this has almost no effect on the temps of the processor.

So can you tell me with your experience if this is satisfactory? I'd rather see temps of 30C but if this is unrealistic let me know, what cooler could give me that? Anyways bye

Is you CPU overclocked? If so, by how much? Also, what temperature are you looking at - core or cpu?

The max safe temperatures for this CPU are ~60c core & ~70c cpu. If what you are looking at is the core temp, I would suggest you to re-mount that heatsink in order to make sure it's properly seated.

I was able to lower the original vcore from 1.4125 down to 1.1750 and this resulted in decreasing the temp from 55C full load IGP and CPU to 42C. I would reseat the heatsink but this thing mounts from the back of the motherboard so it's really not possible to have it seated incorrectly from what I can tell, nuts pull the heatsink to the motherboard from the back and rubber washers hold it off the mobo itself. I also found on Guru3d their review of this heatsink and using 1.4 volts for 3600 mhz on a Core 2 Quad QX9770 XE they get precisely the same temperature (1C off) that I get with 1.4125 so I'm fairly certain it's not the heatsink being off.

I think this cooler may suck idk, 42C isn't bad but I'd like to see 30C or 32C full loads, anyways I am thinking a COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO but unsure if it would fit into my case :-/ Also I can't get the APU seperated from the Heatsink cuz I already tried to remove it thinking that was it before I saw the similar results Guru3d had.

By similar I meant the vcores basically identical giving us each identical temps.

No air cooler is capable of maintaining 30c under load, unless your ambient is like 10c tongue.gif
42c load temp sounds about right at stock settings.

Alright, well stock settings got me 55C but undervolted it's 42C, guess I'll keep it this way thanks.
You should've gotten the NZXT H2. I'm running at 33 degrees and overclocked at 3.2ghz and the gpu overclocked to 800mhz. The stock fan does suck, I will admit that. I replaced it with the CM Hyper 212 EVO, and it makes a ton of difference. The reason I know this is that the fan wasn't turning...something happened to my board...anyway, the fan wouldn't stay running and I was play Skyrim and it kept my cpu cool enough.

The problem with that was I saw the Hyper N 520 was 141mm high, and the EVO you got is 159 mm which would impact the side door of my case :-/ Thus I got the other instead :9 idk maybe im wrong but this is what I thought.

I will think of your suggestion I have this undervolted 20 hours prime95 blend stable at 1.1875 volts anything lower BSOD's which got me 44C max

I upgraded from the N520 to the Hyper Evo and it runs 40C full load instead of the 55C I had been getting. With my lowered voltage god knows what it'll be now :X

I had to pull small amounts on the APU and N520 to get it off, that's how I did it. Anyways it was WAY easier to put on, and quicker than the Evo, but the Evo cools better so I don't care. What a pain in the ass though........ the evo just had nuts you tightened, the Evo was screws, nuts and a plate that went over it I mean **** wth.

Anyways it BARELY fits, BARELY, I mean like pushing the side out a little, but find with me it's nothing just a push not bend etc.

ANyways I'm exhausted I was screwing around with the Evo's screwy mounting system this whole time grr bye

Actually ignore this entirely, it turns out I didn't have enough TIM on the cpu, oddly enough. I applied maybe just smaller than a pea size to the CPU, re-started the CPU and burn tested it the result was 47C full load CPU at 1.4125 vcore, not bad. So I was mistaken, and I just got some Artic Cooling 92mm fans so tried out the N520 and with those push/pull configuration I had 42C full load on CPU, definitely good. So again my mistake, anyways I put the Evo 212 back in and ordered 2 Artic Cooling PWM 120mm fans, should bring temps down drastically! Will keep you updated.
