4x512 value or 2x512 ocz/cosair

Thread Starter
im getting some more ram to crack down on hitches and pauses during gameplay and im wondering if its better to have 2gb values or 1gb with better latency / timings

budget: $200 (AUS)
current: 2x512 (1 value kingston, other is a no-brand) 2.5-4-4-8

i only became interested in OCing this week so go easy on definitions been reading up but im still confused with ram timings and bottlenecks

I'd get a single 1GB stick for now. Running 4 sticks in an AMD rig is NOT a good plan, since it will hurt performance (command rate forced down to 2T, and on older CPUs, speed down to DDR333).

Thus, get a good 1GB single stick. For AMD rigs, there is not that much difference between single channel and dual channel. Then, save up for a second stick.

was just gonna add that. im no AMD guy, as chozart changed my gameplan. but all my research points to that aswell.
go with one quality stick, and add another

only advice i can add, is make sure its readily available. dont pick a wierd brand, or somethin that may go out of stock fast. as you will need to match the speeds and timings later for dual channel

thanks for such speedy replies, man i love this place

i was hoping for a tempory investment as the upgrade after this will properly be the switch to ddr2 & dual/quad core cpu so there properly wont be another 1gb stick after this if that changes anything
