Asrock Z77 Extreme4-M Hit 95W TPD limit with 2500K - Page 3

Well.. I finally swapped the Extreme4M by a Asus P8Z77 M Pro and it allows mos TDP. I think Phases on Asus are quite better han Asrock.

Really, I saw throttling with Prime, IBT, etc. On real working or gaming is quite difficult to reach TDP to the limit enough time to get throttling. Anyway Asus do a better work than Asrock.

Good luck wink.gif

good to hear about the asus board being solid

though, I just checked on their download page, there is a 1.3 bios available
did you ever use 1.3?

it says:
"1. Add "No-K OC" function.
2. Improve Internet Flash.
3. Improve discrete VGA card vBIOS compatibility.
4. Update vBIOS.
5. Update RAID ROM."

i wonder if that no-k oc option stops throttling, I mean I realize the feature itself is for non k cpus, but maybe there is a chance that they allowed ocing.

I sent them an email but they probably won't reply for a while.

Reason I want this board is because newegg is giving out 60gb agility 3's with it for free.
I don't want to miss that offer ;x

I tested the mobo with all bios versions. From 1.0 to 1.30 with same results.

May be with Prime it will throttle, may be during real use dont....

Good luck wink.gif

Hi,
I have ASROCK Z77 extreme4-m also and same problem. This isn't TDP issue, I'm sure.
During OCCT avx test @4500GHz/1.356 V, power cons was about 125 W (HW info).
When I touched the VRM's by hand, they were f****g hot. I figure a solution for that out. It was simple, cool them down.
Now all works fine, no more throttling. I think it's nice mobo but they designed it for IB CPU's.
Only 4+2 phases for SB is not enough to OC above 4.0GHz without heating issues on this board, unles you have a good VRM cooling solution.

I hope, it may help.thumb.gif
